Just because he chooses to stay positive with his outlook on the team, doesn't change his fan status.  We all have our opinions, however, if your personal opinion doesn't seem to be with by the others, you like to pick on folks, call them out.

Actually, I used perfect examples, using your very own "Super Bowl or bust" standards. Coach-QB combos with longer-tenured coaches and borderline elite to elite quarterbacks haven't gotten the job done in the NFC since Zimmer has been coach, so why is that your standard for Zimmer? And if it's your standard for Zimmer and the Vikings, were you shocked when some of these other guys got extensions without winning the big prize? Again, these aren't my "Super Bowl or bust" standards. They're yours. Do you apply them to every team or just ours? Because I like to compare our guys to their peers and judge from there. Compared to their peers, I absolutely believe our guys give us a shot. Again, you don't, but I'm not crazy for thinking that they do.

Why should I throw Mike Tomlin in with a discussion of Mike Zimmer? Mike Tomlin was a defensive position coach for the Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers, then The Tomlin-era Steelers win 2 regular season games for every 3, have already gone to the Super Bowl twice and won the Super Bowl once. His team is presently 11-2. He's an immortal lock to be a hall of fame coach. You really want to compare Zimmer's accolades with Tomlin's? Mike Tomlin has 14 seasons in a row of at least 8-8 football as a head coach, he's 144-76-1 with two Super Bowl appearances, 1 win as a head coach and he's 16 years younger than Mike Zimmer. He's a much better coach than Zimmer. The accolades are there for yours eyes to see, come on.

Funkytown I had a really big post typed up with rebuttals to a lot of your quotes in this thread, but I deleted it. No use in ganging up or going at you this hard. You are what you are and there is no changing that. Keep doing what you have to do to be excited about the team, especially in a year like this year with everything that's going on in the world. Zimmer's winning percentage is not in the top 10 for games coached 2014-present.

It looks like what you meant to say was that Zimmer's winning percentage ranks 7th among the NFL head coaches who had a job in 2014 and still have that same job now.

But since Zimmer is 7th in that group which comprises only 7 coaches, there's another, infinitely more accurate word for his ranking in that group... "Last". And of course Zimmer's absolutely dreadful postseason record relative to the rest of the group needs no elaboration.

With every other 2014 head coach with a worse record than Zimmer now dismissed from their jobs, it's also empirically true that Mike Zimmer has coached just well enough to avoid getting fired, and no better.

Given the lengthening track record of Zimmer's futility, it shouldn't come as a surprise that he'll finish this season tied for 4th among active coaches hired from 2000-2020 for the most games coached in that span without winning a conference championship.

You've previously made objectively false comparisons to other head coaches in order to justify the belief that Zimmer will eventually get around to leading the Vikings into the Super Bowl. If you'd care to know which career track Zimmer is really on, here are the names for you to remember:

4. Mike Zimmer - 112 games (after 2020 season is complete) with same team, and without a conference championship.
3. Jason Garret - 152 games, same team, without conf. championship (Cowboys)
2. Jack Del Rio - 197 games same team, without conf. championship (Jaguars)
1. Marvin Lewis - 256 games same team, without conf. championship (Bengals)

These are the footsteps you're crossing your fingers and hoping for the Vikings to follow in.

And who subjected their fans to a decade or more of futility under the same coach? Two inept, unaccountable owner/GM's who couldn't admit their mistakes, and an indifferent owner who settled for mediocrity as he searched for a buyer for his franchise.

But hey, if you're still stoked about the Vikings pressing on with Zimmer because you've discovered a new similarity between him and Andy Reid (they're both mammals, they both turn beet red really easily, whatever you've got), then lighten up the Dark Side with it!
