Thanks! It is hard to say how much! He would probably get more than 10 but that is with incentives and a signing bonus and work out bonuses. The key is the cap hit which like you said can't be more than 10. I do agree with some who say he won't last super long so I am only comfortable with like a 3 year extension. If he somehow wanted outrageous money and for to long I then would hesitate to do that and only in that scenario, I would look to trade him. I think he is worth the risk as long as it is reasonable just my opinion. I think he is a key piece for us right now and for the short term future. I just talked to my Mom and she said they doing okay just resting and not to worry.

I say front load the deal give him his guarantee money now and lower the cap hit over the 3 year span. The key that we have to be worried about is the cap. How it affects us there and can we get out of the deal with little dead money if we need to. I don't see huge risk if we structure it right.

Yes that is why I said risk. The injury risk is the only concern besides that he is special and a top 5 back in my eyes. The center piece of the offense for sure. They have it on record with the predictions we made. I said he will lead league this year with at least 1500 yds rushing.

That's a pretty big concern... I don't have a problem with a reasonable extension, but I have significant doubts that there's a middle ground between what the Vikings should pay and what Cook will want.

Good idea, but wont happen. And I am afraid it puts Cook more into the 'good' rather than 'great' category. He just gets too beat up and cant handle the hits. Period.

I'd consider this good news - at least the Vikings appear to be unwilling to pay up to Cook's demands, and hopefully if they do come to an agreement, it won't be too high of a number.
