[OC] Quarterbacks generally do not make their big leap until the 4th year, and we should be more patient with struggling young QBs. by sidesaucin

Interesting comment, as well:
Not all quarterbacks can come in and produce immediately. I've been looking at the long-time starters in the league and most would make their big statistical leap around year 4. Here are some examples:
Matt Ryan: He didn't have his first 4000-yard passing season until year 4, and then he made another huge jump in passing efficiency (61->68%) in year 5.
Philip Rivers: Sat behind Brees the first 2 years. Made his big leap in all passing categories in year 5.
Aaron Rodgers: Sat behind Farve the first 3 years. Came in and produced in year 4 (first year as starter).
Matthew Stafford: Made a HUGE leap in year 3. (However, he never reached those career highs again)
Drew Brees: Sat out first year under Doug Flutie. He went 27/7 his 4th year. Made another big leap starting year 6 when he would consistently throw for 4000+ yards.
Russell Wilson: Made a huge jump year 4 where he got his first 4000-yard passing season, and also threw for 34 TDs and 8 INTs.
I would like to point out that I'm not implying that some of these quarterbacks were necessarily bad prior to their big year, but simply that they made their big progress jump around that time.
Everybody is so desperate looking for the next Mahomes or Deshaun Watson or Tom Brady, that the moment their young quarterbacks begin to struggle, they are cast aside.
In that same mold, I believe some teams stick around with a QB too long, even though their quarterback has not made any noticeable progress by year 4 or 5.

Going along with this, I remember Belichick saying that it takes a coach around 4 years to properly implement their system.
