Sloter To Move On To ... ???

Probably Klint Kubiak, who spent the last 3 seasons as the Offensive Assistant/QBs coach for the Denver Broncos.


To be fair, you joined at a time when emotions are clearly running high. And when that happens, and there are two sides, I certainly hope that you don't expect everyone to agree with you. If everyone agreed on everything, discussion around here would be pretty boring. "Yep! You're right! Go Vikes!" or "Yep! You're right! Fire errybody!"

Also, I don't remember Vikings fans being this upset over a cut in A LONG time. I think back to cutting Antoine Winfield and Randy Moss, but even then, I don't remember fans being this upset. Maybe because social media wasn't so huge back then, but wow... this is something. Sloter has left quite the lasting impression! 

Just getting basic facts like who his first coach was (Vance Joseph) would be a start. Or acknowledging his in game performance is not typical, or that ‘coach speak’ is a thing.

You can disagree about what his upside is, if he is better than Mannion, Siemian, etc. but acknowledging basic facts about a situation is a primary function for a discussion. Otherwise might as well converse with birds.

Broncos fans are STILL upset he was let loose, and many were hoping he would be brought back when they cut Hogan. But they have their own version of Zimmerman in Fangio.

Anyway, seasons almost here, Sloter got a job, Vikes went with Mannion, we’ll see what all shakes out soon enough.

I like this guy, can we keep him? This holds true for EVERY discussion btw. It's why I spend so much time on stats and researching long held myths. I want actual answers.

As far as this whole Sloter debate goes, it boils down to camp vs preseason. I think most of us fit into one of those 2 categories. The people who are fine with Sloter getting cut believe the Vikings narrative that Sloter was lousy in camp, while those of us on the preseason side are looking at objective facts. I'm not saying the camp people are wrong, but we can't see camp for ourselves and we have to take someone else's word for it, which I personally have a problem with. I like to see the evidence for myself when it comes to anything or I'm naturally going to be skeptical of the claim. Again I'm not saying Zim or the Vikings are liars or anything like that, they have their reasons, I'm just going by what I can see, and that's preseason.

I'm always going to put more stock in preseason over practice because it's as close to game situation as you can get. We can argue about the level of competition until we're blue in the face, but the fact is, not only did Sloter produce like nobody else ever has vs 3rd string preseason competition, and consistently, he also passed the eye test.

Nobody here can deny how good he looked on a football field. Ignore the results, ignore the competition, how did he look? How did he carry himself? How was the arm strength, the accuracy, the moxie, the enthusiasm, the personality, the confidence, the intangibles? The mobility? Look how well he could roll left or right and still throw dimes. The 25 yard GW TD pass to Beebe last year was perfect and he did it rolling to his left. He was also able to hang in the pocket and deliver strikes. He always managed to find the open guy. He aggressively pushed the ball downfield but wasn't throwing a ton of INT's.

Zimmer said he struggled with cadence and getting in and out of the huddle. I assume he's talking about practice again because I never remember Sloter struggling with those things in games. Do you? So why don't these issues ever show up in games, and why isn't that taken into consideration? We hire a QB to win games, not practice. Cousins might be awesome in practice, but he looks like a basket case in games sometimes, and it's why he's a .500 QB. What if Sloter is a .750 QB who just happens to suck at practice for whatever reason? What's more important? Maybe he just feeds off the energy of the crowd and the environment that game like situations provide? That's why I put more stock in preseason. It's closer to the kind of environment we need or want him to perform his best.

So screw camp vs preseason, I want to know how everyone thought Sloter looked, with their own 2 eyes. HarryHits22 whoskmoon VikingsBoss and whoever else is ok with the release of Sloter. How did Sloter look to you on the football field? Did he pass your eye test? Did he look better than Mannion or Siemian? I think the pro-Sloter side have already taken that into consideration.

I am new to this board. Is this reign man guy a bit? Are we being trolled here?

Just throwing in something that stuck in my mind:

Sloter was headed to Detroit, where a well worn, wife has battled cancer, Matthew Jebediah Stafford resides. Gets a call from Arizona, whose ownership rivals Detroit for ineptitude, where a freshly minted #1 overall pick has a locker, and decided the Valley of the Sun is the place to be?

Barring catastrophic injury to Murray, Sloter is waiting a minimum 3 years before getting a faint whiff of a starting job. A job, where he would be competing in an offense not tailored to his skill set.
