Syd Davy:
Just to let all members of the VWO know I am giving Diggz the VWO to stop all the drama, there is no way any organization can survive being run by 40 people at once, you need a leader to lead, to many cooks will spoil the broth, I’m sure you have all heard that before, just a little advice take it or leave it that is up to you, that is why I’m giving the VWO to Diggz, I definitely want to be friends with all of you still, but just way to much drama for Susan and I, when I started the VWO it was for good cause, to help keep the Vikings in Minnesota after the Vikings asked me to be an honorary officer with Minnesota Momentum, both Bud Grant and Larry Spooner were also part of Minnesota Momentum, two of my favourite people in the World, when I said yes to the Vikings offer I thought what more could I do to help outside of allowing the Vikings to use my image as the fan face of the Vikings, so I thought back to my Purple Army days when I used to tailgate with the Purple Army, so I started to put an Army Together to help fight to keep the Minnesota Viking in Minnesota and help my friend Larry Spooner who was a one man Army himself, I first met Larry at the 2005 Draft party in a little both trying to drum up support for a new stadium we talked quite a bit, but then the next year I saw Larry again in Green Bay and he was doing it there too, he really impressed me with his enthusiasm, I had an interview lined up with ESPN and I asked him if he would like to be part of it, Larry said yes and I had never seen a guy so excited he said I can’t believe you’re even talking with me, I told him man I love what you are doing, we went and did our interview and it went fantastic, the next year at the 2007 Draft party there was Larry again in his little both trying to get people to support the new Stadium and when the season got underway the Vikings asked me to be part of Minnesota Momentum, I met Diggz on a cold winter night game, my favourite cook Dan Myers from my Purple Army days and at that time we had a Tailgate that was indoors and outdoors next to Bobby and Steve’s service station on Washington brought a frozen Diggz and Jenny in, Diggz came up to me right away and said hey you’re the Vikings guy that catches Randy Moss, we kind of hit it off right away and we talk about a lot of things like tattoos, we showed each other our Vikings Tattoo’s and Diggz told me he used to be a Superfan and he used to have season tickets, he almost won tickets to a Super Bowl but was beat out by another friend of mine Steve Bayles AKA: Thor but lost due to not eating raw fish, Diggz told me after that he had season tickets when he dressed as a Superfan but one day he went outside the stadium during the game and then they wouldn’t let him back in and he got in an argument with them got made and gave up his tickets and stopped being a Superfan, I talked Diggz into trying again and the next game he came back to out private tailgate all dressed up in his Helmet Viking towel and V face painting no shield on his helmet at that time, and heck he impressed me so much that I told him my plan of building an Army to help with the Stadium drive, he asked me if he could get a Viking World Order tattoo like mine, then I told him sure we can make that part of joining the Vikings World Order, and then I thought about my being a descendant of Sir Humphrey Davy and I thought hey I can honor him doing this too, so Diggz became the first Knight of the VWO Army, then the Vikings contacted me again and asked me to join WeAreVikingsFans and I asked Diggz to join with me, I started a VWO community there, it was a hotbed for finding and making Superfans for our case, and the Army grew and grew, by 2009 we were doing meet and greats, rallies and backing the one man Army Larry Spooner, it was so much fun and we all had the same goal, get a Stadium deal done and keep the Vikings in Minnesota, when we finally won that war we really didn’t know what to do with an Army with nothing else to fight for we decided to see if we could do some good in the community and my Wife Susan was bugging the heck out of me to start a ladies Division, I talked with Diggz about it and I told him this could make us or break us, so I started the Valkyrie division to make all the ladies happy, believe me there were girls that hated the VWO was a boys club, but it took us to a new level of Superfans, and started or charity work in the community, life was good, and the VWO grew and grew next thing I knew I had Knighted over 350 people, it started to exhaust me, it took all my time away from my non VWO friends, it took away my award winning private tailgate that I loved so much, Susan and I basically gave up all our time in Minnesota, sure it was still fun, and we had hundreds of new friends and if we gave two minutes of time to each person they game would have started, and then there are the thousands of other fans that want to meet and talk and take pictures every game, and my being deaf in one ear and only partial hearing in the other made things so hard, people would talk to me and if I didn’t see them I didn’t know they were talking to me and they would think what a jerk the guy just ignored me, but I just didn’t hear them, I have never not talked to a Viking fan that wants to talk with me and I have never refused a picture, I just try to do the best I can, I have always said the greatest gift you can give is your time, the bigger the VWO got, the less time I had for even my wife, and the bigger the VWO got the more problems would arise, I won’t even get into that, you can’t run peoples private lives, you can’t make everyone be a good person we all make mistakes, and if you take a side with one person the other will hate you for it, then you have jealousy you have to learn to live with and people who backstab each other to try to get ahead, and the drama and then you get people that can’t even be loyal enough to stay away from another persons spouse, and the chaos that comes from that,
and every time something happens I get a phone call from a member or a Diggz or the Vikings, I had a full head of hair before I started the VWO and it all gone now, what does that tell me, I worked for 35 years as an Engineer and retired 6 years ago, now I’m in my 60’s and my time is running out faster everyday, I can’t handle the infighting anymore so I’m retiring from the VWO and handing it off to my first Knight Diggz even though I don’t get along with him that well anymore, maybe now we will get along a little better, I’m still coming to games just not as many now that Susan and I are both retired we moved to Vancouver Canada almost 2,000 miles away and every game cost us almost $2,000 and we are kind of on a fixed income now that no income is coming in from our jobs, just my pension and our investments so we will only be coming to warm weather games when tailgating is at its best and of course we will be at every playoff game the Vikings play in.
The Vikings have been informed of my retirement from the VWO and my removal of the of the players I have Knighted now that I’m not there to protect the shield, I will be starting the Valhalla Warriors and keep Knighting players and working to get Jim Marshall and Chuck Foreman into the NFL HOF were they belong, hopefully the NFL will soon change the contest rules to allow non US residents to enter the Ford Hall of Fans in Canton soon so I can join them, it took six years last time with the Visa Fan of Fame, and help from Randy Moss.
In closing I wish you all well, look forward to seeing you all in the lots and at games, be kind to one another, Long Live The VWO Skol Vikings
