I can't think of a single moment, even from last preseason where he impressed me on anything. I think he's easily replaceable. Badet already looks better than him returning kicks.

that's alot more stats than Badet had last year while he was on the PS. Time will tell, Zylstra is clearly ahead of Badet on the depth chart and he beat him out last year.

“I felt like I was really slow at the beginning of training camp,” Zylstra said. “Now I’m finally starting to get into a rhythm.”

Still, the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Zylstra knows he has a long way to go if he wants to make the active roster for the second straight season.

As much as he has proven himself as a valuable contributor on special teams, he would be the first person to admit he needs to continue to refine his skills if he wants to play a bigger role in the offense moving forward.

“I feel like the one thing I kind of struggle with right now is reading defenses and reacting to that fast enough,” he said. “That’s just something I need to get down in these next couple of weeks.”

It seems as if Zylstra does have the inside track to make the team as long as he continues to improve.

“He is starting to look like himself again,” offensive advisor Gary Kubiak said. “This will be a big couple of weeks for him. He’s going to get a great opportunity with us. He obviously can help us.”

The question here is would the Vikings dare keep two quarterbacks? History says that’s not likely, so Sloter stays. Each season since Rick Spielman was officially named general manager in 2012, he’s elected to keep at least three quarterbacks under team control for the 53-man roster, this includes 2016 and 2017 when Taylor Heinicke (non-football injury list) and Teddy Bridgewater (PUP) were stored on injury lists by Week 1.

Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison, C.J. Ham, Ameer Abdullah and Mike Boone

Released: DeAngelo Henderson, Khari Blasingame (P)

I think Abdullah may have found his way into Zimmer's dog house right next to Hilton Hill. He fumbled without being touched last week-which is as big a reason as any Detroit cut him, and then he cuts hurt and can't play this week. Can't make to the club from the tub... especially after losing the worst fumble that didn't involve a butt in a long while.

Mike Boone flashing in the passing game probably didn't help matters. I think it may be Cook, Mattison, Boone with Ham as the FB (though Blasingame is coming on strong). The issue is who returns kicks under that scenario? Badet has shown capable of doing so, but is it enough? He hasn't shown match as a receiver yet, and end arounds will only work so often if you're not able to provide the threat of a complete pass.

Could Beebe return kicks? He probably is not so valuable that the risk of losing him to injury is that high (to be bluntly mercenary about it). Any of the DBs? You may only see one or two returns a game-but, as I have said before; so long as kick returns are part of the game, I would rather be good at them.

Mike Zimmer said there's a chance Mike Boone could get some reps as a returner these next two weeks, which may help his chances of making the 53 after two solid preseason games: "For guys like him, these backup tight ends, the backup wide receivers, backup running backs, backup DBs, backup linebackers, they need to play special teams if they want to make the team," Zimmer said. "So, I was impressed with what he did on special teams probably more so than running back.”
