Cousins should get some kind of award just for surviving all 16 games last year. That's something you haters can't take away from him, how durable he's been the past 4 years. Although that's not necessarily a good thing if he can't pull his head out of his ass lol. Unfortunately for us, we no longer have a backup that will be able to carry us very far. Who can we trade for if Cousins goes down?

Now you're starting to sound like dvike27 lol. So if we just have a championship mindset and don't talk about injuries, the Vikings will become an injury free unstoppable dynasty? I'm beginning to think our priorities are all messed up. We could cure cancer with this knowledge. Screw football, someone get the cancer research center on line 1 asap.

Let's put it this way. Is Mayfield a great QB, probably not. But he does what he has to do to win. That is important. Does Cousins do that , not that I have seen to date. I feel something like the Missouri state saying on this cause 'show me'

At least one damned time. I'm not greedy. Just give me one and I'll buy like five Vikings Super Bowl Champions t-shirts and wear them for the rest of my life even if they never win another one.

Hell even the Washington Capitals, my long long time hockey team (I only follow football and hockey), finally game me a Stanley Cup championship the season before last. It was their first one and it took them less time than the Vikings as they entered the NHL in 1974.

So yeah, hoping for the best anyways. I would love to be wrong in this opinion though. When we win the Super Bowl this year I'll love it when the pro-Cousins gang gets to tell me they told me so!

Kirk Cousins is a guy who puts out regular stats like a 10-12 quarterback, but when you look at his deep stats, he is worse. At this point in his career, he is a borderline 15-16 quarterback overall which is middle of the road as a starter.

You have to ask yourself if you would not trade him for any of the top 15 quarterbacks on that list. How about the top 10?

Oooooo this sounds like a Reignman challenge, to see how often a franchise has had the same QB start all 16 games in back to back seasons (minus playoff clinching sit-outs). Challenge accept!

Since 1978 (when 16 game schedules began), there have been 1233 team season, and in 455 (36.9%) of those seasons, a QB has started all 16 games. So right off the bat you only have a 36.9% chance of your QB starting all 16 games in ONE season. But we don't yet know how many QB's sat out the final week because their team had clinched. Which I won't get to in this project.

So for now, we'll ignore the clinching sit-outs, and only focus on the QB's who have actually started all 16 games in back to back seasons for the same team, and it's only happened 90 times. However that might be a little misleading because a QB like Brett Favre only counts once despite starting all 16 games in 15 consecutive seasons. Should that count as 7.5 or 14? Because technically he started all 16 games in back to back seasons 14 times.

Yep, it looks like the Vikings have had some bad luck in the starting QB department, but they're not alone. The Bears have also never had a QB start all 16 games in back to back seasons.

Cutler came close in 2009 (16) and 2010 (15), but he missed a game in 2010 with a concussion. He also started 15 games in each of 2014 and 2015.

Tommy Kramer came close for the Vikings in 1979 (16) and 1980 (15), but he missed a game midway through 1980. Warren Moon also came close in 1993 (16) and 1994 (15) but injured his knee in the 2nd half against Detroit in the 2nd to last game of the season, and missed the season finale against the 49ers. Daunte Culpepper was only reliable every other year. He started all 16 games in 2000, 2002, and 2004.

There were too many QB's who started 15 games before or after a 16 game start season for me to research why they missed that one start, so I'm not going to spend the time finishing that chart, but I did do it for the Vikings and Bears to confirm they're the only 2 teams who haven't had a QB start all 16 games in back to back seasons. The Bears will be alone on that list if Cousins starts all 16 in 2019. The Bears have had by far the worst luck as far as finding a starting QB goes though. It's not even close. They've had by far the most starting QB's since 1978 at 98, and by far the fewest to start all 16 at just 5. It's been bad for the Vikings too, but they're at 80 and 10. And to nobody's surprise, the Packers are at the top of the list at 60 and 27. A whooping 69.2%, light years ahead of the 2nd place Giants and Patriots at 56.4%.

That conversation is really important if you want to analyze Kirk. I don't like to blame play calling, because that usually gets conflated with "we should have passed instead of run". However, I am ok with pointing blame at general offensive schemes. Analytics tells us these two things:

Throwing the ball deeper is better
Playaction works even if your running game isn't a threat

Last year we schemed a lot of plays with first reads that weren't deep down the field, and we didn't use much play action. Signs point towards us doing that a lot more this year. Those signs include

Quotes from coaches and players
Observations made in training camp that show that they're practicing what they preach
The fact that we started doing this more when Stefanski took over on play calling last year

If these trends hold true into the regular season your MN Vikings will have a top 5 passing offense this year.
