Then how do we rank QB's?
Anyway, I think people generally rank QBs by a blend of: volumes stats, advanced stats, wins/losses, leadership, health, swagger, etc. Not everything a player brings is going to show up on the stats sheet, especially not the overly-simplified, outdated volume stats sheet.
Because the way I look at it is, a QB with good "advanced stats" but low volume stats is a QB who isn't throwing the ball all that often. Why aren't they throwing the ball all that often if they're good? Doesn't seem to make much sense. Is the coach holding them back? Why? Are they playing careful/protecting a lead instead of putting a game away? Why? Since most games come down to a single score, why would you have your superstar QB playing careful when he can tap into his advanced stat prowess and put the game away? Your QB is #1 at converting 3rd and 10+, but with the game on the line, you're going to have him throw a safe pass and punt? Huh?
Teams don't seem to be using advanced stats for strategic purposes like they do in baseball, they're just a novelty for fans to make themselves feel better about some mediocre QB. Cuz here's the weird thing. When a QB has high volume stats, ain't nobody talking about his advanced stats. For some strange reason, advanced stats are only used by people who support a QB with low volume stats, to prop them up. Or they'll use some advanced stats against a QB with high volume stats, who they're jealous of, to bring them down. That's the only way I ever see advanced stats get used. As propaganda. People will share the advanced stats that make their QB look good and ignore all the ones that make him look bad. They're like highlight videos. People only ever put the good plays in a highlight video. When I see advanced stat after advanced stat of Teddy, that make him look good, I have to wonder about someone's motives. Surely Teddy must have some advanced stats that make him not look so good. I know because I've shared plenty of them. I also share whatever good ones I come across, I just don't come across as many good ones as bad ones, and that makes a lot of sense in the context of his volume stats.
And as far as padding stats go. How come some QB's do it so much better than others? Teddy has been in plenty of situations where he could have padded stats but wasn't able to. Why? Tom Brady is hardly ever in a position to pad stats cuz he's always leading by 2 TD's, and yet somehow he's still always among the league leaders in passing. I guess that's another thing I have to look into.
