I know we don't have money right now, but he was graded quite well and last I checked is still an FA guard. Signing him would shore up the other OG spot and allow a bit more flexibility in round 1/2. Kind of wondering if the Vikings are considering the following:
1. Draft Hockenson if he's there and cut/trade Rudy. I'm not sure Kyle's value. I doubt he gets a raise in the FA market, but I do think a team like Oakland might give you a mid round pick for him knowing they have a sure starter at the position on a reasonable contract.
2. Trade Rhodes or Waynes (and extend Waynes if it's Rhodes). These two moves would free up more than enough cap to...
3. Sign Levitre
4. Draft another CB in the mid rounds. They would be rolling with Rhodes/Waynes, Alexander, and then Hill after 4 games. Hughes might be ready, might not... I'm guessing the Vikings know that though. Bottom line is that CB is probably a bit week the first four games of the year, but with only two good passing teams on that schedule, it may be worth the risk.
I'm guessing that allows them to pick up at least one more 2nd, possibly a late round 1st allowing them to target a DT and an OL guy in the 2nd.
Thoughts?
We'd have a solid blocking TE that can catch passes and be (hopefully) a much better version of Rudy over the next couple years (don't expect as much offensive output to start, but I'm not sure the team needs more pass catchers believe it or not). We'd have a second starting guard, a high OL pick that could be the 6th guy on the line.
I'd probably draft the fast WR I could find in the mid rounds for a field stretcher to help Diggs/Theilen.
