Something has been off about this team for a lot more than this season. We had continuity at QB under Ponder and Treddy, we had continuity at OC under Norv, we've had continuity at HC for 5 years and the offense has been a problem under all of these. If Belicheck was our coach we'd have 2 or 3 rings by now.
Ponder? Everyone said he was bad. There was continuity with Ponder under Zimmer? Did I miss that?
Rookie Teddy to second-year Teddy? Made the playoffs, and should have beaten the defending SB champs.
Norv? Everyone said he was bad, especially you ... but for this argument, you're good with him? Okay, bye...
If Belichick was our coach we'd have 2 or 3 rings by now?! LOL How many Super Bowls has he won without the GOAT? What QBs would he have won a Super Bowl with? Teddy and Keenum? Sustained success has a LOT to do with continuity, and it's no wonder why New England is so successful ... same great coach and same great QB for 20 effing years.
....but let's keep switching our everything and hope for the best. Look around the league. Many of the most successful teams have continuity at HC and/or QB. We have a really good coach, and we were told we'd figure out the QB thing. Let's give it another year or two before we panic.
Teddy was our starter for 2 years. He wasn't good. Zimmer would have kept starting him anyway. Continuity. The bad kind.
Norv was garbage, and it took over 2 years of being garbage and still Zimmer didn't fire him. Continuity. The bad kind.
Zimmer has been our HC for 5 years. He's done some good things with our defense, no doubts about it. Under his watch, with the exception of last year, our offense has stayed bad or gotten worse. And Zimmer makes bad decisions, brings bad game plans to big games, and loses to good teams and in big games. Other than his improvements on defense, these are not things we want continuity with. He is the head coach, not the defensive coordinator. The offense is his responsibility.
But he isn't going anywhere. A year from now you will be telling me why he needs yet another year of continuity to do what he's shown no sign of being able to do in 5 years. He's a very good DC and a mediocre HC.
