First post...just found the board. Looks like a good group.
Anywho, I know alot of people were frustrated we didn't draft a starter-ready OL in the first round, but with Wynn, Price and Daniels off the board I thought BPA was the way to go. Zimmer specifically said this will allow him to experiment with a 4 corner 1 safety look. I'm assuming this will be mostly a 3rd down package, although it would be interesting to see them use this early to match up with pass heavy teams.
What I would like to see out of this package is to be creative with the personnel. I think our defense has trended more towards positionless concepts and giving really talented athletes responsibilities in a scheme rather than pigeonholed into a traditional approach. So extend the idea. Move Sendejo into the box as a pseudo-LB and move Barr around the D line. Sendejo keeps a second cover guy in the front seven without sacrificing much in run defense. He's basically a LB now. But take Barr and put him in a similar role to Robison...maybe he's standing, maybe he has a hand on the ground, maybe he rushes, maybe he covers.
The only...and I mean only...thing I don't like about Zimmer is he has that defensive coach mentality. Up by 13? Grind it out. Keep the ball in front of you on defense and run/screen/run/punt on offense. I hope he learned his lesson watching Philly. They never let up on offense, I think we should do the same defensively.
