Since I know many of us weren't the happiest with the Vikings 2018 draft class, so I'm going to cap off the 2018 draft season with one more mock draft. I'll re-pick the Vikings selections with the rules being obvious - they can only take players that went after the actual Vikings' pick. I will also not pick any actual Vikings selections who went at a higher selection. So with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I'm going to re-do the Vikings' picks.
Pick 1-30: G David Hernandez
We can't stop talking about how the Vikings need a guard right now or about the weaknesses of the O-line. Hernandez may not be a perfect scheme fit (I've heard he isn't a match with what Sparano is running), I think he is a safe bet to be a really good NFL guard. Our offensive line needs more high-caliber players like him on it.
Pick 2-62: OT Brian O'Neill
You know what? I couldn't find another player that I loved who was sliding down the board, so why not take the best tackle prospect on the board? O'Neill solidifies our depth on the O-line and he looks like he could be a starter at left or right tackle in the future. Doubling up on the O-line sounds good to me.
Pick 4-102: DT Maurice Hurst
Hurst's heart was the only thing that made Hurst drop to the 5th round. Er, his physical heart, not the emotional heart. I did hear teams don't like his small size and some of his tape, but Hurst was a machine that dominated and is built like Aaron Donald.
Pick 5-157: WR Equanimeous St. Brown
The Vikings could take a TE here... or they could draft a WR who's basically the size of a TE. St. Brown has a high ceiling and would be a worthwhile gamble here. At worst, he could fill in as a redzone weapon.
Pick 5-167: ED Duke Ejiofor
I don't get why Ejiofor slid this far. I had him going in the 2nd round!! The Vikings clearly wanted to add some pass rushers, and adding Duke would fulfill that quota. This is a much better pick than taking a kicker.
Pick 6-213: LB Tegray Scales
The Vikings could use some LB depth after losing Lamur and having Brothers suspended for 4 games. Scales went undrafted, but he's the best LB left on my board.
Pick 6-218: CB Holton Hill
Yeah, I like Hill this much. I know he goes undrafted, but I like the kid enough that I'll spend a draft pick on him. He's easily the best CB available and should easily make the team.
Pick 7-225: HB Justin Jackson
After mocking him to the Vikings on every single Fanspeak draft, I have to take him here. The Vikings could use an upgrade at the 3rd string HB spot and Jackson looked better than your average 7th rounder.
Any thoughts? Go ahead and post your own Hindsight Mock Draft if you want to.
