I watched the Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez boxing match and imagine my surprise when Canelo Alvarez got gifted another preposterous scorecard by one of the worst judges in combat sports of all time, Adalaide Byrd. Golovkin had Alvarez running all over the ring and backed up on the ropes. Alvarez scored some good shots but by my reckoning only landed about six more power shots but took fifty more jabs than he landed from Golovkin. It was a pretty vintage display of a fighter preserving himself to go the distance and win rounds and maybe get a knockout at the end. Alvarez didn't get the knockout at the end and looked more tired than Golovkin even though Golovkin was pressuring the whole fight and was throwing ten or fifteen more punches a round than Alvarez.
For me, Alvarez won four or five rounds, in the first and last three rounds, but screwed himself by hanging out on the ropes too much and not being active enough. I had it 7-5 Golovkin, one judge had it 7-5 Golovkin, another called it 6-6 draw and one called it 10-2 for CANELO ALVAREZ.
COMPLETELY INDEFENSIBLE, BLASPHEMOUS SCORECARD! This is why boxing is seen as a rigged farce and has fallen off a cliff in popularity. Dsigusting. A lot of people predicted Byrd to turn in another rotten, possibly even corrupt, cars, but I wanted to believe the judging was going to be quality and clean. Man, did I get burned again! I am just thrilled I didn't put up money on Golovkin, I'd be furious today if I did.
