In all seriousness...I'm glad you've come around on this. It's just too much money for Keenum. If we're north of 20M the only name I'm interested in is Cousins. We can't afford an expensive backup if we are going to be stretched to afford a higher potential starter (I'm talking Cousins, Smith or Manning; not Teddy, Sam, Bortles, etc.). Stepping back a bit, looking at the big picture, we may actually be totally screwed at this point. Even if we are able to land a viable veteran, Sam may be our best bet as a risk/reward backup if he'll sign for around $6M - $8M. I'm not sure he will, so if we sign somebody with very sound knees, maybe Sloter will have to be the guy.
For me, if we invest in Cousins than Sloter is the backup. If we invest in Smith, Manning, or Bradford I want a QB in one of the first two rounds. If it's Teddy than we need a high end backup.
It may be hard to predict before we know who is fishing for QBs and who isn't. Right now, I imagine the following teams are in the mix:
Washington, Arizona, Minnesota, Jets, Browns, Giants, Bills, Broncos, and Jags.
With Cousins, Smith, Manning, Bortles, Bradford, Keenum, Bridgewater, McCown, and possibly Dalton in the mix. And some teams may just roll with a rookie.
From this far off vantage point, I'm not sure the market is going to be all that fierce. It might be for Cousins, but beyond that there may be decent value.
