We're 8-2 and on a 3 game winning streak. Were these last three games masterpieces? Hell no. But as FSUVike often points out, the league is full of teams that win games by small margins during the regular season and end up in the playoffs and sometimes go far. I'm not predicting a SB for the 2024 Vikings - but I get the feeling a lot of people are already thinking, "This is OK but just wait until next year."
It really feels like there is dissatisfaction unless the Vikings dominate in games. I heard something on Purple Daily a week ago about this, and one of the guys (sorry, don't remember which) attributed this to so many Vikings fans having lived through the 1998 season in which they dominated in most regular season games. Well, maybe - but we all remember how that ended.
I think there is more to the reasoning. We occasionally do see a dominant performance, like our early season win over Houston. That definitely set up expectations. And of course we also see other teams dominate, so the "any win is good enough" idea seems hollow.
That brings me to Detroit. Highlights of some of their recent games sure make it seem like we're playing for the consolation prize this year, especially how they hung 52 points on each of our last 2 AFC South opponents.
I think the current Lions team is really well constructed and I'm a big admirer of GM Brad Holmes. But Dan Campbell is a child. Running up the score with Goff and all his starters in virtually the entire game? I know he's the pro coach and I'm just an amateur, but I would have had Hendon Hooker in that game halfway through the 3rd quarter when they were up 35-6. Hooker got a total of 7 pass attempts in those 2 blowout victories. I wish no players ill...but it's a long season with two months to go and Campbell is going to wonder if he would rather have Goff getting Player of the Week in November or definitely healthy in January.
