No but all those things play a big role in what your win percentage might be. The Vikings miss the playoffs or important seeding by 1 game because they keep going 9-8, because they usually aren't very good in all those categories you've mentioned, because fans are content with being on the struggle bus and eeking out one score games on the edge of our seat. Which leads to a lot of heartbreaking losses, which Vikings fans also "should know". I haven't played football beyond 2nd grade, so I can only guess that it's hard to lose in heartbreaking fashion when you're leading by 40 points.

Blair Walsh, Gary Anderson, those things don't happen if you're a well oiled team that can put teams away early enough so you can take a knee.

Long story short ... JFC I've never seen a fanbase argue so hard against domination and success. No wonder we have a dynasty of mediocrity, it aligns with expectations. OMG why does this Reignman hate the Vikings so much? Always wanting them to win by 30 and step on opponents throats. Such a hater.

In 2022 we were on a streak of winning close games. In my 50 years I've seen us on the other side of that, losing close games. Several of those, 1986 to mention one, we barely lost to the eventual Superbowl winner, the Giants. We were winning in the last minute, they converted a 4th and 17 and kicked the game winning field goal. And we missed the playoffs by, you guessed it, one game. My point; we ARE good enough to get to the Superbowl. Just because some games are close or we win ugly doesn't matter. Many experts picked the Packers to go to the Superbowl. Look how they won today. Also, look how the Chiefs won last week.

There is going to be two teams that make it to the Superbowl and if you look back at their games you will find several close games that could have gone either way depending on a bounce, bad call, or lucky break.

Also, look at the Addison TD today. Darnold got hit .0001 of a second after he threw that ball.

The difference between winning and losing is so close that sometimes it's immeasurable.

I debunked this last week when legendsofthenorth also tried to pass his feelings off as evidence. 51% of NFL wins are by 1 possession, KOC is at 81%. So yeah, just because every Vikings game comes down to one possession, doesn't mean that's normal.

Anecdotes don't disprove a rule. Besides it's about point margin and not necessarily most points scored. You're delusional if you think teams that claw and scratch their way to 1 point wins are just as good as teams that blow their opponents out on a regular basis.

yes but your repeated posts tend to leave out important things like idk context maybe? The only season that matters is 2024. You know the one with a bridge QB and an enormous amount of dead cap? In this season we are playing very well and have won 8 of 10 games but I get it. We aren't Detroit so it's a failure

Seasons have their ebb and flow, so maybe we are at a low point at the time Detroit is hitting it's high point. But facts are facts: Detroit just put a "beat down" on a team that we struggled to achieve a win against (just a week ago).

Team A beats team B by 5 points (no touchdowns scored the whole game)

Team C beats team B by 46 points (and holds team B's offense to a lesser score total that Team A's offense.)

Team A - Scored 40 less points on offense and gave up 1 more point on defense.
Team C - Scored 40 more points on offense and gave up 1 less point on defense.

Does team A have a chance against Team C? Technically yes, but I know which team I'd place money on to win.

The Bears are up next, and I've seen some pretty marginal Bear squads hand a defeat to our Vikings at Soldier Field when our Vikings have been "better." We better be ready to play...

yeah we aren't Detroit. Oh well. No other team in the conference is either. We are equal to or better than every other team in the conference besides Detroit and there's no reason why we can't make some noise come playoff time and no one predicted that before the year

It must really bother the pathologically negative fans who continue to gripe about an 8-2 team that they predicted would win 6 or less games. It’s one thing to critique a team, but after winning 8 out of 10 games can they at least find positives with this team? Or how about enjoying the great talent that is on both the offence and defence without bombarding this forum with negativity. As certain as they were about a sub 6 win season, they could acknowledge the possibility they could be wrong about our chances in the playoffs. After all, nobody predicted this was a SB contending team before the season started.

Being the straight shooter I am , I cant say I am totally surprised at the record of this team. Did I specifically see 8-2 ? No I will not say that but I laughed at people predicting us as bottom feeders because it didnt add up. I saw a typical Viking season 7-11 wins. We added too much depth on defense, and I knew Darnold wouldnt be totally Dobbs or Mullens. Add KOC and Flores and it never made sense us being a bottom 3 team. The Vikings have had a top 5 pick like once in the last 30 years or something crazy. This roster was no where near one of the worst teams we seen. It never added up to me.

So now I am just critical because we are here now, you dont always just get this 8-2 record and a opportunity. The NFC isnt scary at all, the lions are clearly the best team and team to beat. If they get homefield I dont see anyone beating them. They have quickly turned around into one of the best homefield crowds since they havent been good in years. I dont really care about the blowout wins thats how they play and thats not how we play, but their Oline is what separates them from everyone else. Im going to enjoy the year and not get too stressed because I see this team as a little better than 2022 team but probably ending similar. I just dont see Darnold not having a meltdown in one of the 3 games. Now if we can somehow get the 1 seed I could see us having a chance, I think that is really our only chance. NFC is not that good though we have that going for us.

As a 50 year fan I can say that I learned as a teenager that the A-team, B-team, C-team thing doesn't work. I will ask a question about the Ram's game 4 weeks ago; Who thinks that Darnold would not have lead our team downfield if the facemask was correctly called? When has he failed to drive for a score when the chips were down?

PLAYER OF THE GAME
According to PFF's initial grading, Vikings linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. delivered a standout performance, earning a 90.3 grade—on track to be the second-best single-game mark of his career. Pace excelled in coverage, as both of the passes thrown his way fell incomplete. However, it was his impact against the run and as a pass-rusher that truly stood out.

Across 11 run-defense snaps, he notched a solo tackle and an assisted tackle. In the pass rush, he generated two quarterback hurries on just eight pass-rush snaps, adding another win that didn’t result in pressure.
