Sam is bottom 5 in how long it takes him to throw the ball. That's not his fault? That wasn't the Jets killer CB duo he was up against today. Declan knows football. It wasn't all on Sam. That's a media guy doing a hot take, which unfortunately is his job.
There were way too many penalties. But Darnold was slow on his reads many times. That's just a fact. And he had several more instances where he could have taken off and got positive yards when virtually the entire Defense had their back turned to him.
Bottom line is that he needs to make faster decisions. Kevin needs to give him easier reads too. Hockenson being back will help with that. As will benching Ingram. But he didn't see open guys against the Jets and he didn't see open guys today. It's becoming a problem.
In case you missed it :
I feel I owe FSUVike an apology.
I said I was confident that the Defense would not give up over 28 points and they did.
I also was beating my chest about Sam Darnold having all day to throw and the Vikings will put up a bunch of points and that Hutch being out would be an advantage....
...well...now I finally see that Darnold had reached the pinnacle of what he is and that's not a QB that will take us (or any team he signs with) to the promise land.
His stats were good so he at least bounced back from that debacle in London against the Jets but, to repeat myself, we needed more from him than just 1 TD.
ratsalad made a good point that Sam did resemble Kirk Cousins and that's not what we need from the QB position.
Hopefully with Hock coming back, Sam will have someone to dump the ball off to going forward but yeah...Sam is what he is : He's not a bust (he may be a Solid Starting QB with a long career in this league) but he's not "The Guy" to take us to where we want to go.

I'm not stubborn not to admit when I'm wrong 'cause I was wrong.
That was mean spirited by me and I apologize for it. One too many IPAs yesterday. I have certainly been wrong my fair share as well. He's holding the ball too long, but Sam is still playing much better than I thought he could.
