It's a bit early to be talking trades because we're just 3 games in and you don't fully know who's a contender and who isn't that may want to hold a garage sale. Since we don't have the Draft capital in 2025 (remember, they have to be awarded a 3rd Rd comp pick first before they can trade it, and they won't be awarded until around the Combine in Feb), any trades the Vikings make will likely be a player-for-a-player sort of trade, so before we talk about who might be available on other teams, we probably first have to look at our own roster to see who we might want to trade away that might be of value to someone else. Also, contending teams that trade away a player often do so because they have quality depth behind them...
...so do the Vikings have players they could trade away at a position that we have solid depth at and could "afford it", and that another team might want? The only position that we have some quality depth at that could be of-value to another team is the DE/OLB pass rushing group, with Pat Jones II a potential trade candidate. He's only the last year of his rookie deal, has played well this season and can play both in a 4-3 or 3-4; we can potentially "afford" it because of the quality of depth we have at that position, not to mention Gabriel Murphy waiting-in-the-wings to come off IR after this coming Week 4. Would Pat Jones II likely land a "stud CB" or any other "stud player" from a non-contending team? Probably not, and teams can never have enough pass-rushers, anyway. Plus, it was mentioned in another thread that if Kwesi could extend Jones II for a reasonable DE/OLB depth deal (sort of like the deal they extended Metellus with), that might be the better option.
CB is certainly a position group that we need to revisit in the offseason because Griffin & Gillmore are on 1-yr deals while Murphy is on the last year of his, so the only CB's they have under contract for 2025 are Evans, Blackmon, Najee, McGlothern and possibly Jay Ward (if you include him as a CB, which I don't). Blackmon might compete for a starting role if he comes back from his ACL and it's possible McGlothern could compete for a larger snapcount, too, but we'll likely be exploring the free agent market like we did this past offseason, and/or entertaining the idea of resigning Gillmore/Griffin to "reasonable" deals. Two veteran CB's (who are nearing 30, but still probably have a few years left in the gas tank and wouldn't mind signing for a contender) that could very available next offseason in free agency are DJ Reed (Jets) and Charvarius Ward (49ers).
