After (another) upset of the 49ers, it's onto another tough matchup against the Texans. Can the Vikings continue to run the bandwagon with a big win here?
Texans Injury Report
RB Pierce - Out
RB Mixon - Doubtful
C Patterson - Questionable
C Scruggs - Questionable
S Stewart - Questionable
Vikings Injury Report
LB Pace Jr. - Out
WR Addison - Out
ED Turner - Out
Point Spread: HOU -1. SuperSim Calculated Line: HOU -1.5.
* My Thoughts *
Time ran short so I've got to abbreviate this section. But the summary of my analysis is that the Texans have made up their shortcomings on the roster with great coaching. Stroud is playing well and has weapons to deal to, and they've mitigated their weaknesses on the OL by scheming around them. The run game has to be a concern with Mixon out, as the Akers/Ogunbowale combo is not going to scare anyone, certainly not the Vikings run defense. The Bears defense gave them fits last week, I expect the same from the Vikings defense.
DeMeco Ryans' defense reminds me of Flores with his ability to compensate for questionable starters and also mixing in three safety looks. Like the 2023 Vikings, their interior is weak and can be taken advantage of whereas the edge rushers are scary, and they have depth behind them (95 career sacks between Hughes and Barnett!). Al-Shaair is stepping up as the team's top linebacker but they need to get Michael Harris back. As for the DBs, Stingley took a leap last year and could enter the top 10 CBs in the league while 2nd round rookie Lassiter had an elite first two weeks. Pitre is a tackling machine who gets cooked in coverage, and the safeties are passable. They are an interior disrupter and an elite LB or safety away from behind a top tier defense.
Prediction: Texans 20, Vikings 17
I think the line for this game is about right, both of these teams are about even in my eyes in the moment. That is a massive step forward for the Vikings, but I think the Texans will take advantage of some of the mistakes this offense makes to pull this one out. The Slowik/Stroud combination is one that might be able to crack Flores' machinations for a stretch and use their tough-to-cover receivers to get the Vikings on the ropes.
Any thoughts? If not, see you at the game! Funkytown vikingpwr diehardtwinsfan
