I would disagree that what I have been watching is a top 5 qb, especially considering full context. The defense has been the main driver to success. He still has too many poor decisions and turnovers for my liking. Despite an improved run and screen game the offense is 21st in the league in yards per drive. Some of that is not his fault but at the same time part of the reason we score at the 9th best rate is the defense and run/screen game setting it up.
He’s been good and far better than expected or what we are paying for. As I said earlier if someone wants to argue he is better than Kirk go ahead. I would need to see more to consider him a top 5 qb though given the full picture. He’s a top 5 storyline though, that I agree with too.
What do I need to see to say he is balling so far this year and been awesome for our team? Nothing lol, that’s what my posts have been getting at in multiple ways.
What do I need to see to declare darnold a top 5 qb that this franchise should scrap what appears to be a multi year plan to get their franchise qb on a rookie contract window to build up the roster that way? Well that’s where what I have been pointing out about the turnovers and questionable decisions, offense having some issues still despite the run and screen game etc.come into play. I would need to see him put in far more difficult situations and lead this team out, win games they shouldn’t with the talent they have etc like other elite qbs can often do. Some of that we still need to see as he hasn’t even gotten the chance with how dominant the rest of the team has been.
As I have been saying all along it’s possible to be very happy with how Sam has been balling without going to that level of extreme on such a small sample of play with issues that have been pointed out. Those issues are related to that top 5 qb comment people keep pushing and nothing else. I’ve been very happy with Sam and have no complaints so far (on top of key praise for some big plays he has made, especially that Nailor throw against sf).
... and neither is this Chris guy.
