Just getting some general threads rolling for the 2024 season.

Focus on special teams
Shall we briefly talk about special teams? It’s not the sexiest subject, but this Vikings team must excel in the margins to exceed expectations, and winning in the margins means winning on special teams, particularly on kickoffs and punts.
Last week, when asked about returns, Adofo-Mensah mentioned Myles Gaskin as the likely kick returner, while O’Connell didn’t commit as strongly. As for the punt team, questions abound. Without NaJee Thompson, who will be the Vikings’ gunners? Akayleb Evans, the team’s sixth-string cornerback, did not play a special teams snap last season. Minnesota could have added a special teams-specific defender after the initial cuts but chose to stay internal. That likely means a hefty role for linebacker Brian Asamoah II and safety Jay Ward, who, like Evans, do not seem destined to play meaningful defensive roles, barring injury.
There is a different dilemma with punter Ryan Wright, who won the training camp competition against undrafted option Seth Vernon. Wright shined in his rookie season, then regressed last year. He was inconsistent in preseason games, and though the available options are limited, Wright’s leash probably won’t be long.
