That's not correct. Money that is unspent does not "come off." It remains available for future years, hopefully one of which will be a legit "all in" year. 2024 ain't that year.
I believe that you are correct. The coaches want to win because a) they hate losing and b) they want their jobs. The front office wants to win because it fills seats ($$$) and they also want to win, although our team has an awful history of ownership hyper-focused on $$$ and not so much the rest. Exhibit A: the Hershall Walker trade. It had nothing to do with winning and everything to do with getting rid of the near-prohibitive cost of signing three first round draft picks. That was before the rookie wage scale was added to the CBA, and rookies would take teams to the cleaners. An often forgotten fact is that Mike Lynn had also unloaded another first round pick around that time for some over-rated LB. I forget the details, but somebody may add them. All in or not, I would rather have (plenty of $ + $10M) than (plenty of $).
