Great write up, it is a very odd spot for a coach to be in headed into his third season. I have mentioned it before but usually this is the year to take off for a newer coach but with the route this team has taken, we have our lowest expectations since 2014 (last I saw was 6.5 projected wins, 2014 pre season had us at 6). There is so much more uncertainty around this team than in a long time and it is at a time you normally expect results.
The toughest part about juding KOC is there seem to be some pretty big questions, especially in terms of the running game and screen game. Those aspects will be more important now than ever with our QB situation. IMO the passing offense is designed very well and consistently gets players wide open. I don't know where it ended up but there was a graphic part way through last season showing only 49ers as better at getting guys open. So he sort of has areas he looks very good and others that absolutely need to be improved at the same time. With our current construction it will a bit harder to judge improvements based on results.
To me next year is sort of a wash for this regime but in 2025 there needs to be very clear signs of progress. Essentially like what the article is getting at. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out and what happens as extension talk ramps up.
