The sooner McCarthy starts the better.
The front office and coaching staff has laid out their plan for McCarthy. They aren’t going to start him until he is ready. They have said this a few times to the media. Fans wanting him to start soon will have no effect on that happening. Recently KOC has said he wants jj to focus on his mechanics and timing as well as getting more comfortable and knowing of the offense. And his offense is harder to learn than the average nfl offensive playbook as it’s the shanahan system. They have also been forthwith in that they want darnold to start week 1 and are hoping he plays well this year. It’s pretty obvious they want to work with JJ between mechanics sharpening up to learning the offense better to getting used to the NFL and being a pro. They want him to feel mentally and physically ready before they start putting him out there are are going to make sure of it. And JJ has been known as a leader and smart player from his state HS championship teams to his college National championship teams. All his teammates have said he is a great leader, competitive and smart guy. I’m sure once the coaching staff feels he is ready then he will get the start and not look back. And between his athleticism, smarts, leadership and competitiveness and the fact he will have a good supporting cast around him player wise and a former NFL hc that has gotten more out of lesser talent, I wouldn’t be betting against jj not succeeding when he finally is ready.
