Let’s not forget that they have Darnold.
...and while that certainly may happen, the odds are more in favor that Darnold is nothing more than a "bridge" for half-a-season to the 2024 Drafted rookie, whomever that may be...
The organization pivoted away from a proven veteran like Kirk Cousins and is seemingly going down the path of trying to get over the proverbial "hump of mediocrity" via a QB on a rookie-scale contract and surrounding that rookie QB with talent primarily out of free agency acquisitions going forward (hence the trading of early Rd Draft capital in 2024/2025)...
...and when you go down that "path", you need to know if it's the best one sooner rather than later, which means the 2024 Drafted Rookie is likely to start seeing serious snaps at some point midway through the 2024 season, especially if the Vikings invest their 2025 1st Rd pick into that QB in the form of a trade-up tonight, and especially if Darnold struggles early.
Certainly, anything's possible (no one thought Nick Foles would be holding a Super Bowl trophy before the start of the 2017 season) , but I'm not sure the long-term vision of the Vikings in the post-Kirk Cousins era entails Sam Darnold beyond 2024...
