I expect JJM to have reasonable milestones for his development. And yes, if he's doing what he's supposed to be doing and progressing faster than expected, by all means hand the reigns over sooner than later. As a fan, I hope Darnold makes that impossible, even though I doubt it.

But for all the talk about the purple goggles surrounding Darnold, there seems to be just as much about JJM. Literally every scouting report out there said he'd need to sit a year (or more) and develop. Being taken 10th does not change that. Does the kid have talent? Sure. But absolutely none of that changed between the National Championship and right now. So yeah, I kind of want my coaches thinking. I want JJM on the field when he's in the best position to succeed, not because Darnold sucks and the fans revolt.

Very reasonable and I am right with you. JJ should come in when he checks all the boxes fully and not before. In the meantime I wish the best for Darnold and hope he can keep us at least alright (or better) until JJ is ready. It’s really undebatable to feel that way. I don’t care if it’s week one or next year. As long as it work out long term I’m good. I trust KO to play JJ when he feels it’s the right time. We almost to training camp SKOL!

I think to an extent though what is being pointed out is that it isn't only related to Darnold face planting on why people might think JJ could start.

If Mccarthy is checking all of the boxes needed before the season that means he is excelling. If that is true it is possible he is playing very good, which means Darnold actually has to play great to have a shot at getting the starting job. FSU makes some good points about JJ possibly being closer to ready in some people eyes than others because of how Michigan had him operate and he may be a bit more pro ready due to it.

So it isn't necessarily only an issue of if Darnold sucks now maybe JJ goes in because he's the next best option. I think what many who push the idea of JJ starting are alluding to and hoping for is that it is related to JJ being a bit more ready than some may think and him matching/exceeding KOC's expectations within the plan. That would be the best outcome for the franchise long term most likely as well. It may or may not happen but it doesn't necessarily rely on Darnold's level of play alone so even without a faceplant we could still see JJ based on his own development.

Yeah it would be extremely knee jerk to put the new regime on the hot seat after the 24 season unfolds. They ran it back like ownership wanted and now are finally able to mold a new team in their vision.

I'm not a huge fan of either KAM or KOC but they were dealt somewhat of a sh*t hand to begin with and deserve a chance to rebuild it.

dude wtf are you even talking about. I'm not blaming Kirk for everything but I have had no issue pointing out when he hasn't been good enough
