Any filings by the Vikings (if there are any) haven't been revealed to the public, to my knowledge. According to a PFT article on 3/14 (the day after the 2024 League Year started) and 1 day after the now-infamous Kirk Cousins introductory Falcons presser, "...according to an NFL spokesman, the league is looking into the situation as part of the “standard review process.” (link)

So it doesn't appear that their investigation/review was regarding any specific complaint - either filed by Minnesota or self-reported by Atlanta (as was the case last year when Arizona self-reported their violation with tampering with Jonathan Gannon) - which does cast doubt whether Minnesota would ultimately receive any compensation.

Several headlines across the 'Net this morning read that the NFL is ready to "drop the hammer" on the Falcons, and if that's true - that the punishment is likely to be pretty "severe" and moreso than the what Miami was punished for tampering with Brady - then I guess it's possible they could work out some sort of deal with Minnesota that would satisfy the NFL to avoid "the hammer".

It would be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Vikings to have not filed to be Minnesota nice only to see the NFL strip Atlanta of their first-round pick and Roger basically says I'd have given it to you straight up if you had filed.

I would assume they have filed something. I know there's speculation that they did not, but why in the name of whatever deity you worship or don't worship wouldn't you file if there's even a chance you can swap a first round pick or grab a day 2 pick from them?

Don't tease me... Miami lost a first and a third the following draft. Those weren't transfers obviously, but they got their guy from us... so if he drops the hammer and makes it worse that might be their first and swapping their second for 108.

8, 11, and 23 sound nice...

Darnell Mooney isn't exactly a huge prize. I suppose the Bears could get something too, but you're talking a receiver with 400ish yards last year.

As detailed by Albert Breer's "inside" piece on the Cousins deal on 3/18 (link), it was known the Vikings wanted to draft a QB in the 2024 Draft which is why they didn't want many guarantees for Cousins beyond 2024, and they had already built out Plan B (Mayfield, if he was willing to leave Tampa) and Plan C (vet w/ upside, which was Darnold)...

The only thing the Viking's can possibly argue to the League is that the Falcons "securing" Kirk prior to free agency meant they could have possibly lost out on securing some of their backup plans, which they really didn't. Even if Atlanta spoke to Kirk prior to 3/13, Minnesota wasn't willing to go where Atlanta did and the outcome would be same. Of course Minnesota could have filed a complaint and cited any number of things in it, but at the end of the day, the reality is that Atlanta outbid Minnesota and the conversations Atlanta had prior to 3/13 didn't really change that, and Minnesota - having already built their contingency plans - pivoted to the Sam Darnold/2024 rookie QB Plan almost immediately.

In contrast, when Arizona GM Monti Ossenfort placed a call to then-Eagles OC Jonathan Gannon in the week before the Eagles/Chiefs Super Bowl, the Eagles could argue/complain that Gannon's mind wasn't fully prepared for that Super Bowl and Arizona's actions had a direct effect on the outcome of that game. Osssenfort self-reported it, but I'm sure Philly GM Howie Roseman cried a river to Goodell and the League Office about how the tampering cost them that game, until Roseman's "tears" produced some tangible results the night of the 2023 Draft.

Kwesi isn't as manipulative as Roseman and I seriously doubt he cried a river to Goodell or the League Office about how Atlanta cost them their offseason and how they can't remain competitive in 2024 because of Atlanta's "meddling"...

I'd argue they did get him for us. We were trying to sign him... I mean I get your point overall. They had a blank check. They would win, period. They may have been willing to offer him that the whole time, but if they are negotiating with him well before 3/13, that would have had an impact on our negotiations too. If Atlanta was doing so right with us the entire time, all that did was seek to drive up his price when he might have theoretically signed before FA. That would also piss off 30 other owners who now see some serious QB cost inflation too because of that massive contract. Cousins is making as much as Mahomes this year. Think about that.

Think of it another way... if they don't tamper and he hits the market without that contract in hand, the price goes up to say 3/120 (70 guaranteed in 2 years) and Minnesota drops out and signs Darnold. Now there are no bidders. Cousins' agent might try and get someone else to jump in, but ATL could reduce their offer too if they wanted to play hardball. They likely don't obviously, but that's a more tolerable contract too.

Also, I don't think this is Kwesi talking to Goodell. He made it sound like it was the Wilf's in one of his pressers. This could be about placating a bunch of livid billionaires. I would not assume the Wilf's are the only ones upset. Jerry Jones has to sign Prescott next year as an example. Trevor Lawrence will be up for negotiation too, as is that Love guy in GB.

Separate from being a Vikings fan, this feels like it should be a slap on the wrist unless it gets proven to be more than Kirk talking to staffers after he had agreed to a contract during the tampering period.

Forfeiting their fifth or one of their two sixth round picks feels right to me. I think for anything more severe or more beneficial to the Vikings there needs to be more found in the investigation.

Exactly, because if the Vikings get something for this then Chicago deserves something from Atlanta (WR Mooney), and the Giants would get something from the Eagles (HB Barkley). There isn't precedent for this happening outside of that edge case with Gannon, and the NFL will not want to build precedent towards making draft trade "punishment" trades the norm.

As I've stated before, the Vikings didn't open up shop on the morning of free agency Monday and make first contact with the agents of 3 guys they had signed to complex multi-year deals by 2pm that day. Everybody tampers and if you "file a complaint" I'd have to guess that someone else could be persuaded to file one against you just on the face of it.

Thing is if the NFL punishes Atlanta (and my opinion has been either they won't, or they'll take away a meaningless late round pick in 2025) it's not really about tampering, it's about not talking about tampering. Tampering is like fight club. We know it's going on, just don't be idiot Kirk Cousins and mention it at a f*cking press conference!
