I count 23 QBs that had good enough careers where they wouldn't be considered busts at any other position.
For your 89% number to be correct only 5 would be hits.
Maybe he's only counting QBs that got to a SB? Flacco, Stafford, and Mahomes have won them, Newton, Ryan, and Goff got there. But I'm just guessing: terryzinc, share your criteria so we can give fair consideration. I think the statement that 1st-round QBs "bust at a higher rate than other positions" may be true, but QBs are drafted at a high rate due to their "star power" and teams' desire to draft them early. But isn't it more relevant to compare the "bust rate" (once "bust" is defined) for QBs from round 1 with QBs in other rounds?
Thanks for that! I was particularly interest in Purdy's numbers given his surprise success. Looking at these, all I can say is that his emergence was definitely not something you could have predicted from college performance. His best area was "Grade Undere Pressure" which has not correlated cleanly to NFL success. Interestingly, his worst / Deep Red categories (ADOT, Deep Passing %) remind me of Bo Nix. I don't find that too surprising: despite announcers raving about Purdy, to my eye his deep passes are just adequate and can float. But it suggests Nix could be fine - in a situation like Purdy's.
