Kwesi admits he uses PFF to learn FIRE HIM NOW

Just to provide a little context here, this is stemming from Matthew Coller's book that was published in Oct 2023 titled "Football Is a Numbers Game: Pro Football Focus and How a Data-Driven Approach Shook Up the Sport" that explores the origins of PFF and how it "shook up" the football world. Kwesi's quotes from the book come from his early days in the San Francisco organization when he was hired from the Wall Street world to the sports world that he loved. He was in a room with X's & O's "football minds" like Fangio as a Manager of Football Research & Development and basically used PFF as a basis for understanding what they were talking about and used that as the basis for the analytics he brought to the table. While that may seem somewhat rudimentary now, at the time - during the Trent Baalke/Jim Harbaugh era (before Lynch/Shanahan) - that was somewhat the equivalent of "Moneyball" in the early 2000's in MLB. The fact that he was retained as SF cleaned house from the Baalke/Harbaugh era to the Lynch/Shanahan era is a credit to Kwesi and the approach.

While I'm sure that he and many Front Offices around the NFL use PFF data to some extent, I'd like to think that Kwesi has evolved beyond using PFF as the only basis for personnel evaluation.

Every team uses or has used PFF and other forms of analytics. This isn't a big deal. I don't think he's drafting players strictly off their PFF grades

Working on something right now to figure out if PFF can actually predict success in the NFL for a QB in the draft. I will say right now that while a lot of the best NFL QBs had good grades in college, a whole lot more terrible QBs also had great grades.

Seems like PFF could be a tool to use, but isn't nearly as useful as watching actual film. At least for QBs. Would be interesting to see how it does with other positions.

GMs aren't scouts. They're people RUNNING ORGANIZATIONS!

They're decision makers. Gatherers of information, opinions, thoughts, wants, etc.

It's literally their jobs to use every single asset at their disposal to make the best decision possible.

Is John Lynch a Scout? Was he ever? What does playing Safety have to do with evaluating Defensive Tackles in the Draft?

Being a Player at any level doesn't bestow some mystical ability to be able to judge talent at roles you didn't play. Hell, it doesn't even automatically translate to being able to judge prospects at the position you played.

Amd being a Scout doesn’t automatically make you someone who can lead an Organization.

Does Kwesi create contracts? Nope. Brez does. The Minnesota Vikings have an entire Scouting Department. It's been able to identify great WRs, Offensive Tackles, Safeties and Linebackers. It hasn't been good at identifying Corners, Interior Offensive Linemen, Edges and Defensive Linemen.

It's Kwesi's job to listen to their recommendations just like it's his job to listen to the Coaches recommendations. And get all the information he can from every source he deems credible.

And he wasn't alone at the Senior Bowl. The Vikings had a large group there. Many of them were scouting player's physical traits and play. Kwesi was there to evaluate them as people. Which as a person who literally hires people for a living is incredibly consequential. Especially with guys like Rattler.

Trevor Sikkema at PFF knows more about player evaluation than any single person on this site. Period. If you refute that then you are clearly a superficial hot take artist. Kwesi absolutely should be reviewing his work. As well as that of Daniel Jeremiah. And Buddy Brooks. And so many more.

To do otherwise would be negligence. A dereliction of duty.

Kwesi's issues relate to not doing a more thorough overhaul of the Scouting Department and not focusing enough resources on the Defensive Line. And signing too many busts as Free Agents. Reading PFF, which it is painfully clear would benefit many of you greatly to do, is not one of his issues.
