In 35 games KOC has never beaten anyone by 17+ points. That's the 14th longest drought to begin a career in NFL history (out of 406 coaches). Even John McKay pulled it off sooner and he started 0-26 with the expansion Bucs. Vince Tobin coached for 73 games and never beat anyone by 17+, so the bar is pretty high. Zimmer went his final 35 games without beating anyone by 17+ so the Vikings have now gone 70 games as a franchise without pulling it off. We're in Vince Tobin territory for crying out loud. To be fair, Bill Walsh (37), Zac Taylor (37), and Tom Coughlin (36) took longer to beat someone by 17+ to begin their careers. Although Bill and Zac were in a SB in their 3rd year, and Tom a CC by year 2.
But before we start comparing him to any of those other guys, KOC has began his career with 20 wins without any of them being by 17+ points, which is the 2nd longest drought to begin a career in NFL history, tying Arthur Smith (who finally pulled it off in his 21st and final win, or his 43rd game). Vince Tobin had 29 wins. The next longest is 17 by Mike Nolan. Walsh (11), Taylor (9), Coughlin (16). KOC might in fact be the next Arthur Smith minus the stupid mustache. B-b-but culture.
The 13 wins in 2022 were clearly a fluke so I fail to see what he's done to earn an extension.
What was Kyle Shanahans record his first two seasons?
