I'm going to do this one a little different. Instead of listing names I will just look at the depth chart and say my thoughts on the position and what area I would attack it to improve the team. I am not to familiar with the draft prospects right now it's early. So I don't have names at the moment, later on I will put guys on here that I find interesting for our team. All ages are based on age on Sept 1st 2024.
Under Contract: Listed in the order I would have them on the offseason depth chart to start off
1. Ty Chandler, 26yrs- A little older than I would like for just getting started, nevertheless, he is our best back and has nice speed and vision. Not a bell cow ,but brings stuff to the table.
2. Alexander Mattison, 26yrs- Surprisingly younger than Ty but not anything more than a backup. Unfortunately his contract set up makes it not feasible to cut him, Stuck with him this year as depth hopefully.
3. Kene Nwangwu, 26yrs- Said it before will say it again waste of a roster spot.Fast, but not a natural RB and now like I said with the KR rules watches the ball sail over his head mostly. Cap Number: 1.243m save 1.054,800 if cut.
4.DeWayne McBride, 23yrs- Young, looked out of shape last preseason. Will have to fight to stay around.
5.Myles Gaskin, 27yrs- Starter Experience, was below average when he started, but as a camp flier this far down I'm cool with giving him a futures deal.
RFA:
2/3. Can Akers, 25yrs- The 2/3 is where I would have him above if he was healthy and under contract, I like Akers but another achilles. So we might just move on. Would be okay at the minimum to let him come back. Likely gone
The numbers look fine, but we need more here. Part of it is KO refusing to run and play Mattison to much. Still we need another good one. Lucky for us RBs come in all shapes and sized big name no name. Early in the draft, mid, late, undrafted you name it. I think we need a bigger back to go with Chandler.
There are big names out there like Henry, Ekeler, maybe Barkley.. Pass on the high dollar ones while tempting we need money elsewhere. There are a few failed young one like a Clyde Helaire but no not that neither. Instead we have multiple 4th, 5th and 6ths use one in those rounds on one. I will find the targets in those rounds. So I will focus more on the middle to late round RBs when I lock in. I will look at early one too. Not for us though I will look hard in the middle for that hidden gem.
C.J. Ham, 31yrs- I forgot Ham need to add the FB with the RBs. He will be back based on the contract. There's a out after this year.
