I'm not concerned about '25 for this exercise. I'm talking a realistic plan to maximize the opportunity for Minnesota to lose in the NFCCG in '24. Or at least make a deep playoff run. With Cousins. Because the Owners just can't quit him.
That's why I'm not trading back into the 1st or using my 2nd on Penix, JJ or Nix. Kirk is not coming back to only start for 1 year. You Draft McCarthy in the 2nd and he's already on the 3rd year of his 4 year rookie contract. And that year also has some Cousins dead money on the cap.
Again, this is the 'forgo QBOTF Plan' because we believe Kevin isn't interested in developing a rookie QB after he saw what life without Cousins looked like.
So with 50some million, what else are you picking up? You still need a good CB. There aren't really many decent FA options. Backup QB is a must given how badly we did when Cousins went down. I don't think you can plan on an injury free 2024. Hall as a 3rd QB maybe, but definitely not #2. KAM would still need to find some good value signings at some places. We'd probably need to bring back Risner, and I'd probably still bring in some sort of competition/depth there too. Safety looks pretty good, but the LB unit could use some help as well. I'm probably still looking for a rotational pass rusher on the DL too and a new kicker...
Oh, and an OC.
I start with the Draft.
2 4ths: Jordan Travis (5th in Heissman voting and only falls this far because of the injury).
Best RB available.
2 5th: SEC ILB. I'm still signing a veteran ala Hicks or bringing Hicks back.
WR4 prospect.
2 6ths:
IOL depth.
Another DT or Edge that is a great athlete without great production.
Then I'm looking at the 3rd wave of Free Agency for another situational pass rusher and another WR.
CB I can't fix unless they throw money at Snead. I'm not sure that they can afford that. That's where I get creative with trading some 2025 Draft Capital to pair with a more affordable guy like Owuze.
