Would you consider trading JJ for draft capital?

If this is true, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah isn't going to be the GM of the Vikings in two years, so he's taking careful aim and shooting himself right in the foot.  

He would have to force my hands. I Rather pay him obviously but if he demanded it for whatever reason now that’s a different story.

While I agree that '24 can be viewed as a "reset" year, I disagree that just because it is the clock has somehow been reset on Adofo-Mensah and O'Connell.  They are going into Year 3 of 4 year deals.  This is the point (ludicrously enough) that GMs and Coaches start looking for contract extensions as an incentive in attracting free agents and top staff-the topic of an extension was already broached for O'Connell just a month or so ago. 

I try to be postiive, but the fact is this team went 3-6 without Kirk Cousins last season, and has significantly downgraded at the QB position...so getting to even last season's 7 wins would be an accomplishment.  Okay, I accept that-but hope to be surprised.  But rebuilding isn't a four or five year process in the NFL anymore .Cincinnati got Burrow, then Chase, then Super Bowl, Philadelphia got Hurts, then Brown, then Super Bowl. other teams that have taken that big swing, Arizona with Murray, Cleveland with Mayfield, New York with Jones...the other New York with Darnold (and soon likely Wilson)...if the window gets slammed shut sooner than expected-or in the Jets case never really opens at all-it's the staff that brought them in that usually pays the price (Kingsbury, Jackson/Kitchens,Shurmer/Judge...Saleh's seat has to be warm) , even if the QB may (Murray) or may not(Mayfield, Darnold) gets another chance, or two or three. 

No, this staff's final stand is going to be '25 and if that season doesn't end with at least a playoff berth, I don't see Kwesi Adofo-Mensah or Kevin O'Connell staying with this franchise past then.

Yeah, he'll likely hit his foot as accurately as he hit in his first draft.

In general, you're right. This is actually a factor I looked at when I developed my theory (now proven incorrect) that the Vikings would hold on to Cousins: because new GMs/HCs in the NFL have to prove they are successfully rebuilding within their first 3 years to get an extension, as you noted. As a corollary to that, I saw that if new regimes were going to bring in a new QB, they almost always do so within the first 2 years. If you draft a QB in year 3, he's very unlikely to bring real success until his 2nd year and that's often too late to save the GM and HC. The Vikings are resetting in year 3, so you're right that this has to be a very successful and immediate reset.

Except...the Wilfs are weird. They fired Childress barely a year after giving him an extension and in the season following an appearance in the NFCCG. They fired Frazier after 3 years and one year after he took the team from 3-13 to 10-6 and a playoff appearance. Then they swung the other way: in 2016, Mike Zimmer let the team dissolve from a 5-0 start to a finish of 8-8. Along the way, he fought with his angrily-resigning OC and had some of his veteran DBs ignoring his directions and calling their own coverage. That was a coach who appeared to lose his team and would have been fired by most NFL owners. But Zimmer got 5 more years.

I'm forced to believe the Wilfs may actually have said, "Your first 2 years are just an experiment, you're both young so consider those years an apprenticeship and we won't hold you accountable for anything. The real job begins in 2024." If true, it's shocking and ultimately disrespectful to fans.

The common thread in all of those is they were fired when they lost the fans. And it will be the same with these guys. Rick kept his job through several coaches because he convinced Wilf that he had assembled enough talent to win if he had a different coach and both Chilly and Frazier were Wilf hires. After he assembled what would be his best roster and Zimmer didn’t win they both lost their jobs.

In this scenario Kwesi and KOC are both running parallel and to keep his job Kwesi will need to show that he is putting the right talent on the field and keeping the stands full with fans willing to pay to see them. If at any point in the next few years the team goes south and they lose the fans they will get fired
