Well, technically, in his 1st ever career NFL start in Atlanta he was concussed after 2 drives and 12 total plays...

He did have some medical "red flags" prior to the Draft from his time at BYU:

2019: missed 5 games due to multiple concussions
2020: redshirted (hip injury)
2021: missed 2 games with a rib/"core" injury
2022: missed the Bowl game w/ an ankle injury

He isn't the smallest QB to play in the NFL, but he is on the "smaller" side of NFL QB "frames" and I do have a slight concern about him taking a bunch of shots. I'm hoping the OL holds up fairly well and one of his characteristics we're all wanting to see more of is his mobility: we know he can move, but how are his improv skills when the pocket breaks down? Will he sidestep pressure and keep his eyes downfield to deliver some chunk plays? Will he take off for 10+ yds if he sees a wide open field, and if so, will he slide and get out of bounds properly to avoid taking hits?

It's always an exciting time when a rookie QB plays, and plays well...let's hope we get to see a full game (or two) of Hall this time around...

OOF! sorry i asked. The answers to the following questions you've raised are probably come to light when he settles in and gets more comfortable. Sayin, maybe not enough time left in the season to evaluate all that.

Hall's biggest red flag in college was his durability, he has a hard time staying healthy. It doesn't help that his height (6 feet, 1/8th inch) is in the 11% percentile and his weight (207 lbs) is in the 25%.

Don't get your hopes up for a running game, when has KO ever done what he should when he should, and when has he ever done what he said he would do? I'm nervously glad we'll get to see Hall but I'm worried about what kind of disaster play calling KO will scheme up for him

As much as I hate to admit it, KOC is borderline masterful at scheming WRs open, so I'm not worried about that aspect. The throws will be there, the questions are; will Hall see them, and can he accurately make those throws?

I'm confident Hall can make every throw an NFL QB needs to make with his arm strength, but DCs usually feast on rookie passers, especially the ones getting their first(ish) run with the big boys. So, the question is, will they be able to confuse him with exotic blitz packages so he doesn't keep his eyes downfield to see those open receivers? Being that Barry is Ed Donatell 2.0, I doubt it.

And yes, as masterful as O'Connell is at scheming WRs open, he's equally inept at scheming RBs open running lanes, or NOT running 97% of his running plays up the effing middle! Seriously, what the....

Finally, I really hope O'Connell scripts some roll-outs to utilize what he did best in college, which was roll out to the flat and throw a perfect deep ball .....well ....at least that's what I remember from watching him. But lets be honest, he fell to the 5th round for a reason, the probability of him being Purdy-esque in his debut is about the same odds as me hitting the Powerball.

Much like you, I'm nervously optimistic with my expectations, but then again, isn't that perfectly descriptive of our entire lives as a Vikings' fans?

Yes, that time he was not very smart and not very lucky. Pretty sure Dobbs was equally reckless at times and somehow didn't get injured, or maybe he protected himself in small ways I didn't notice. But its true Hall has had a number of other injuries, and I don't know why. Maybe he was too reckless, or maybe something else out of his control, like genetics.

No no, I'm not nervously optinistic....I cant even spell it. I had the optimism and hope crushed out of me long ago. Just happy to see him play, and nervous KO will make his life more difficult (like not calling rollouts). But that's life, the good ones will overcome obstacles and the rest will create their own...

No matter what happens you can be sure of one thing: People will overreact, one way or the other and the game thread will get ugly and stupid. I'm kinda wishing just an average boring OK game for him

Well back in week 3 he read all the blogs about how awful his run offense was, so he was hell bent on pounding the ball against the 31st ranked pass defense all the way to another loss and 0-3 start, granting Brandon Staley a stay of execution. *showoff*

He also seems pretty committed to making Mattison a household name, which I think he succeeded at doing, as most households have gotten a lot of mileage out of the phrase "Mattison again FFS?" this year.

The Vikings believe the unknown Hall gives the team a better chance than the known Dobbs and Mullens. Between Hall, Dobbs, and Mullens, it seems clear that each can move the football down the field, albeit in different ways. Dobbs may occasionally hesitate to pull the trigger on a pass, but he’ll use his legs to move the chains. Mullens showed a (sometimes excessive) willingness to push the ball downfield. Ultimately, Dobbs and Mullens turned it over too often to run the offense smoothly.

Hall’s sample size is much more limited. Still, he can make the smart football play to move the chains, and he has the mobility to use his legs if needed. But taking care of the football is the critical area where Hall must be better than Dobbs and Mullens.

Turnovers destroy Minnesota’s hopes on a near-weekly basis. O’Connell is nearly through his second season as head coach, and he is undefeated when the Vikings win or tie the turnover battle.

If the Vikings decide not to bring back Cousins, Hall can plant himself firmly in contention for a starting job next season, whether Minnesota drafts a QB early or not.

Quarterback is the most important position in all of sports, and maximizing the information available to make informed decisions at that position is essential to sustained success in the NFL. The decision to start Hall might not seem to match that level of magnitude. But if the rookie lights it up, Vikings fans will look back on O’Connell’s decision to start Hall as important for the 2023 season and for the franchise’s long-term success.

I think KOC is pretty good at everything…. BUT calling plays.

He is pretty good at that too, except when he has a lead. The Vikings have the 3rd most passing yards starting scrubs at QB this season and that doesn't happen with poor play calling. His run plays aren't working for the most part, but how much of that is starting backup caliber running backs all year?

He is pretty good at that too, except when he has a lead. The Vikings have the 3rd most passing yards starting scrubs at QB this season and that doesn't happen with poor play calling. His run plays aren't working for the most part, but how much of that is starting backup caliber running backs all year?

Or the inside zone running scheme that doesn't play to the strengths of his lineman? There's almost never a hole for our RBs to go through, and about half the time they're seemingly hit before they even get to the LOS. AP would've struggled in this scheme.

And I think Chandler is perfectly capable of being a RB1, he's around the same level talent-wise as a Jerrick McKinnon IMO, but with break-away, (ain't-catch'n-my-ass-from-behind) speed.
