First, Cousins was holding the ball that long because that's literally O'Connell's Offense. We've seen him calmly run a Quick Passing game with no problems getting through his reads fast. This notion that Kirk is slow going through his progressions is overstated.
Second, sounds like he literally had the same procedure as Rodgers. And that butt face is already prancing around without a walking boot. So I think we can dispell the notion that he won't be ready to start the year.
Third, Cousins notoriously spends as much time battling Father Time as Brady. Rodgers is pushing 40. There are also examples of backups who've played into their late 30s in recent years. This is becoming a trend and GMs will be aware of that.
All you need is a GM/HC potentially on the Hot Seat with no appetite (or time) to gamble on getting a Rookie up to speed fast enough to appease Ownership. I see potentially 5 spots.
Atlanta makes the most sense. They just went the Ridder route. Arthur Smith needs to show some progress. They have London, Pitts and Robinson and can continue to work on their O-Line. I can definitely see the Raiders doing this because, well, they're the Raiders. Tampa Bay is also a possibility. Tennessee and New England are unlikely but you never know.
Cousins was leading or near the top in virtually every statistic when he went down. In Year 2 of the same OC for the first time in however many years. And he was rumored to be good with 35 million if the deal was for multiple years to stay in Minnesota. If that's what he's willing to take elsewhere he may very well get it.
Or he can sign here for 35-40 million and do even better in year 3 of KOCs offense as the team continues to draft and develop potential replacements.
