I look back at what happened with Case and what the best case scenario would have been for the Vikings after his MVP-like year in 2017. It wasn't giving him a 5 year massive deal, but it wasn't letting him walk and signing an expensive free agent either. It was giving him a similar deal to what Denver gave him and drafting a QB late in the first round.
There was a reason Case was a career backup and there is a reason Dobbs has been one too. That doesn't mean Dobbs couldn't be the perfect bridge QB for the Vikings next season though.
For those who don't know/remember, Keenum got a 2 year, $36M deal with $25M guaranteed while Kirk was signed for a 3 year $84M deal that was fully guaranteed. So basically $10M more a year for Cousins.
The Broncos only had a 7th rounder (Chad Kelly) behind Keenum, and they didn't spend a significant pick until 2019 went they took Drew Lock in the 2nd round and paired him with Flacco. All 3 of those QBs ended up flopping.
I still can't believe Bradford got a 1/$20M deal in free agency ($15M guaranteed despite his injury history), more per year than Keenum.
Give me the cheap bridge QB over the expensive one - Keenum for one year at his original $2M over the $25M he got for one year in Denver... no thanks!
