Quessenberry played with that perspective Sunday, posting the best overall grade among all of the Minnesota linemen, according to Pro Football Focus. He allowed only one pressure on 47 snaps.

“How about David Quessenberry?” O’Connell said Sunday night. “Stepping in there against that front with that kind of game.”

Interior defensive lineman Dean Lowry is another regular starter who missed Sunday’s game with an injury. Filling in for him were Khyiris Tonga and T.J. Smith. The Vikings plucked both players off of other teams’ practice squads: Tonga from Atlanta, and Smith from the Los Angeles Chargers. Alongside the steady Harrison Phillips and Jonathan Bullard, the Vikings held the Falcons to a measly 3.9 yards per carry.

Then there were the mid-game injuries. Receiver K.J. Osborn was carted off with a concussion, thrusting Trishton Jackson and Brandon Powell — both of whom were undrafted — into larger roles. In addition to tight end T.J. Hockenson, who played through a rib injury that had him keeled over on the sideline, and Addison, who extended upward and secured a massive toe-tap grab on the team’s game-winning drive, both Jackson and Powell made an impact Sunday.

Jackson separated from a defender at the goal line on a scramble drill, dove and caught the game-tying two-point conversion. Powell, who walked with a noticeable limp late in the game due to cramps — “It’s a big game,” Powell said, “so you just breathe, suck it up and try to make a play” — ran an out route toward the pylon and caught the game-winning touchdown.

These players making these kinds of plays in these moments may seem unlikely, but Harry was not surprised given what goes on behind the scenes. O’Connell constantly talks about the Vikings’ culture, but it’s more than just a tagline.

“I feel like we all have very good relationships with our coaches,” Harry said. “They’re just very hands-on.”

He cited receivers coach Keenan McCardell, specifically, who was among the few staffers O’Connell retained when he took the job.

“The points he makes are very helpful,” Harry said of McCardell. “It’s route detail. The number of steps I’m taking in and out of my routes. He played receiver, so he’s good at picking things up.”

Brian Flores and the Minnesota defensive staff deserve credit, too. Young cornerback Akayleb Evans, who missed most of last year with three concussions, punched the ball loose from Falcons running back Bijan Robinson in the third quarter. Edge rusher Danielle Hunter continually raced down running backs. Linebacker Jordan Hicks swatted a pass away without looking. Confidence oozed from safety Josh Metellus on every snap.

This cannot be random. Each week that passes proves it’s not a one-off. The only guessing game these days is this: Which unsuspecting Vikings player is going to rise to the occasion next?
