I wonder if that's a warning shot that they might pull an Eli Manning and refuse to sign with one of the more chronically inept franchises if they were to draft him?
I don't think there's anything subtle about it personally. It is a warning, probably to Chicago and Arizona in particular, but there could be other teams on that list.
And is it about "tanking" or "taking a step back" for a year or more? Two years? For the teams who have "tanked" and it's now trending in the right direction for them, was said tanking limited to just a year or across several?
I'll be sure to be taking notes of all of those who suddenly think losing is better. When we lose next year, if there are complaints, I'll be the first one to say, "Losing is better! Higher draft pick, baby! Why you mad though?! This is all part of the plan!"
The same people who argue that Championship Mindset crap are now some of the same ones arguing that losing is better in October. OCTOBER.
Play to win the game
I'm sorry, this season is over. Yes it's October, but we've all seen what's on the field. What's the best case scenario, we go on a hot streak and manage to finish 8-9 and get a 1 and done in the playoffs? Pass... seriously. Pass. I'd rather lose... take that step back that Danchat is suggesting. And trading Hunter, KJ, Kirk*, and anyone else with value will help do that. Spend time developing guys like Cine, Booth, etc. See if they are worth something or not. I'm fine with that. Plus the savings from what we aren't paying them in salaries gets used against their dead cap giving us more money to spend when it's time to compete. As Reignman puts it, we're cheering for them to win later. They pick higher, quite possibly top 5. Embrace the reality. The sooner we do it, the better the franchise is overall.
There are (debatably) 3 worse teams than us: Chicago,
