Nah, I think it's perfectly fine for a backup OL
You get swing guys who are experienced as swing guys not put all your chips in hoping a guy can move over as the primary backup spot. A guy who not even good at his regular spot. Primary backup to two shaky starters to boot very very risky.
Lol. The best atheltes in High School on the O-Line play Tackle because it's the more important spot. They then typically go on to play Tackle in College. But most of them aren't good enough to play Tackle at the NFL level so they end up moving inside to Guard.
Every. Single. Team. In. The. NFL. Has. A. Former. Tackle. Playing. Guard.
This old saw needs to be put down. Minnesota has a poor track record of doing the exact same thing every other Team does. Ergo, to genius Vikings Fans, Minnesota should no longer do the thing that every other Team does. Brilliant!
How about draft and coach better instead of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Ingram was a reach. I had a low 3rd Round grade on him. Brendel does not meet the athletic criteria to be a Tackle-only backup. He's had success so far because he's a savvy football player. Seeing if he can translate some of that savviness to a position not as dependent on athleticism is a freaking no-brainer.
