Who do you think will be the better HC?

I can see a lot of fans agreeing with this position. I don't disagree with it. I do think there are some notable HCs with great QB relationship skills who are not considered offensive gurus. The most obvious examples are Tomlin, Vrabel, Mcdermit. Are they old school?....I don't know. I think they came up through an old school pool but have learned to adapt. And so, whatever side of the old school/new school fence is on, his ability to consistently adapt will trump everything. I think KOC has already shown that quality, in many areas, but has also shown some stubbornness on gameday. Whereas, Flores is the very definition of adaptability on gameday and is now faced with applying that to other areas facets of his personality.

Both KOC and Flores are growing as coaches. I think the flaws each have shown in their early tenures are correctable and that the ultimate answer to the question will be determined by how each adjusts their own game.....given the scenario that they both get a team with owners willing to spend etc.

Ironic to me is, it's pretty easy to argue that what one of them lacks the other seems to have in spades... and now they are trading notes on the same staff.

Childress really could not make those adjustments.
I think Zimmer just burned out and spent and entire season triggered, which sounds like hell.

Both KOC and Flores come across different in their personal/philosophical flexibility.

I'm excited as a fan they are both with Vikes, for at least this season, and I hope Flores winds up in the AFC when he gets his next gig.

I agree they def are not in perfect situation by any means. We likely wont be bad enough to get a top guy. But I think this class is a little deeper and you could always make that trade to get up , yes itll be costly. Idk if they would give the keys to mullens as a bridge. I think they would have to go a little higher if they wanted a bridge guy.

I think whats going to happen is we have a good year win a playoff game or two , and Kirk will be back for another year. Or we have that regression year and are in position to get our QBOTF.

I'm not up to speed on all the college QBs but it seems like a pretty deep group after the top 2. Sanders, Ewers, Pennix and maybe even McCarthy could be in the mix for first rd prospects. Maybe even more than that. Seems like guys emerge that weren't even talked about. In 2019 the popular play was to tank for Tua but some unknown named Burrow ended up being the guy

No, that's absolutely an internal hire. I've never heard of a ... wait, the Colts hired Jeff Saturday off the street last year . The 2012 Ravens replaced OC Cameron with QB coach Caldwell. And it's not like the Ravens offense was terrible before the change or great immediately after, but it and Flacco did catch fire in the playoffs.

The point is, sometimes you just need a change to light fires. I mean when Flipper was fired, after a 7 point disaster in Seattle, Stefanski put up 41 against the Dolphins in his first game. The Vikings first 40 burger in 49 games. But in the next 2 games the offense started both games with 4 straight 3-n-outs, so it was short lived. At the very least, KOC should have come down a little harder on Ed, demanding more aggression or something different. That Giants game was just embarrassing.

Well again, that's not the point. The point is to do what it takes to give yourself a fighting chance. There's no way this team was going to survive a 4 game playoff gauntlet with the Donashell defense, so we replace him with Pettine and we lose 38-21 instead? Who cares lol? I would have a lot more respect for Kevin in that scenario for simply doing something, anything over just accepting his fate. Who would've blamed him? I don't see how that bodes well for us to have a coach that can't make tough decisions in a business that requires tough decisions.

This guy is going to age like a president, and I can't imagine how much of a mess he is on cut day. Everybody likes to say he looks like a young Bud Grant, well give it 5 years because he's going to look like grizzled Bud Grant in no time.

That move would have been incredible. I completely agree about DG's skill being talent evaluation. The guy put together legit 2 super bowl contenders with 2 different franchises, both using plug in QBs who were considered toast.

I wonder if Green takes that job if offered? He struck me as a guy who was hell bent on coaching.

I think you were right on Az. That roster was his for the most part. In my years of VIking fandom (too young for the grant years) the Denny green era is much missed. Always in the playoffs minus two years. The Wilf family in 20 years hasn't made the playoffs as much as Denny did in 10.
