Yep. And that's why I say, "Thanks for nothing!" As I said, contenders want a reliable veteran at QB2. And most contenders have their franchise QB for the foreseeable future. The few teams that are in the "competitive rebuild" stage at quarterback could really benefit from playing QB3 in blowouts (wins or losses) to get their project QB some meaningful reps. But nope, only if the other two are Niner'd outta the game! Boo!

Absolutely I agree. It is kind of pointless. Why not have a 53 man roster and the 3rd QB is the 54th. So you can keep a 3rd QB without thinning another spot. NFL is silly sometimes. Like the OT rule. Whining each team should get a chance. Now what happens when the team get it a second time and score. Then we will see crying we have to let both get it same amount. Until it is a college game with 2 hour overtime periods LMAO!

So it's not the same effect getting zero chances in OT to one team ,once to the other and losing or getting it one time to two for someone else and losing. Boy we in strange times these days. How does that make sense the rule change didn't change nothing you can't make this stuff up.

In the spring:

I highly doubt the Vikings are going to have all three quarterbacks active on game day, but maybe then this weird rule wouldn't apply? Danchat ? Uncle ? Oh, well, if you only have 2 active quarterbacks. That's dumb but I don't think any team named the Vikings should ever have only 2 active quarterbacks until we find Mr. Right.

99.9% of games every team goes in with 2 active QBs. You only get 47 active players on gameday and no team wastes one of those spots on a 3rd QB outside of very rare situations, like having a 3rd QB who might be used on special teams or certain packages (only examples I can think of are Taysom Hill and Chris Streveler), or when your starting QB is playing through an injury.

I understand its not a thing, but that doesn't change my opinion that the Vikings should always have 3 qbs ready to go. The reason I think they should always have 3 ready to go is because as long as we are playing with the One and Done Mindset all season long they also need to use all 3 to get them all game experience to cultivate new mindset options.

Out of the 8 QBs we drafted since 2000 Teddy Bridgewater is the only one I felt somewhat optimistic about. I like Jaren Hall. He might be a decent QB for us.

Here, Jaren gets a Deep Cross concept vs. cover 3. He immediately eliminates the post due to the single high deep safety and climbs the pocket and hits his second progression with an impressive ball in stride. Being able to throw accurately without having his feet set makes the degree of difficulty on this throw through the roof. Easy to see why the Vikings kept him on the 53.

He didn't wow in preseason but he did appear to steadily improve. Difficult to tell playing against backups, but I think he could potentially develop to a solid backup. Worth keeping, but thought we could have cut him and he would have passed through to the practice squad.

Jaren Hall, Minnesota Vikings

After a rough showing in his first preseason outing, Jaren Hall gradually improved his level of play, putting together a fantastic game against the Cardinals in the third game of the season, even with an interception to his name.

Hall has demonstrated the kind of athleticism the Vikings were looking for when they drafted him and his mechanical improvements have been notable even in this short span of time. His improving accuracy and pocket presence may mean he can turn into a long-term option for the team.

Still, there’s a lot to work out for Hall. His inconsistent accuracy and pocket presence will need to be ironed out and he cannot just rely on his athleticism and strong arm in order to earn a spot on the team. Processing a bit faster would also help, though he’s well on his way to being a strong backup – he’s ahead of where fifth-round quarterbacks typically would be.
