Here are my notes off of watching live my full notes will come out later this week.
Offense
Dalvin Cook:
Let's start off the most Vikings news of the day. Dalvin Cook went down clutching his knee on a non contact injury that has all the mechanism's of an ACL tear. If he's down for the season say goodbye to our run game. The OL is better than in previous years but they're only on the level of "not letting our RB get hit in the backfield as soon as he gets the handoff by multiple defenders". Let's not fool ourselves into thinking we have a top tier line, they do enough to let a good RB be able to succeed but Mckinnon and Murray are not good. So get used to going down on first contact and misreading holes for the rest of the season. On the slim chance Cook isn't out for the season disregard this lol.
Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs:
These players are no fluke with both of them routinely getting open and making beautiful adjustments to Case "scattershot" Keenum's throws. Whenever Sam or Teddy get back expect this passing O to consistently look non vomit worthy.
Kyle Rudolph:
Rudolph has been mysteriously quiet even for him to start the season and it looks like we can see why. Keenum really does not like throwing to the MOF and has missed our 6'6 TE on the handful of times a pass has come his way. Rudolph may not be a star but he deserves the ball to be thrown into his postal code. Again once Sam or Teddy gets back expect Rudolph to play a more prominent role
Pat Shurmur:
The O still seems to be called nicely even with Keenum's overthrows and missed open players for TDs. This O seems to flow much smoother than last year, with the zone running game also looking far better than last year's power plays. He really seems to be calling plays to Keenum's strengths which is also a good sign. But consistency is key so like I've said before let's see how this season plays out. I do believe the O will be humming along much smoother once Keenum is on the bench although we will really miss Cook.
Defense
Everson Griffen and Danielle Hunter:
Griffen can continue to call out whoever he wants as long as he plays like this. We really do have the best DE duo in football with both of these guys having monsterous games for us and played a big part in holding the Lions O to only 14 points, especially with our O crapping the bed in the second half.
Anthony Barr:
Last week I said Barr was back to a good LB but I didn't think he'd get back to 2015 heights. I was wrong. If he keeps this up he'll be back at the very top on off ball LBs in no time.
Eric Kendricks:
Dude played like crap and if he had a better game the Lions wouldn't even have scored 14 points. Who thought he'd be the LB to struggle with tackling.
Pass Defense:
Played basically lights out with no stupid penalties either. The blown coverage by Sendejo was awful but this is a Lions passing attack that can put up points. We did, however, drop 4 picks and if we held on to even half of them we win this game. The D didn't play bad by any stretch of the imagination but it could've been even better.
Special Teams
Kai Forbath:
Pack up time to get us a new kicker.
Ryan Quigley:
Pack up time to get us a new punter.
Priefer:
Jeff Locke went from dud to stud and the only differnce is the coach. He also let Blair Walsh's mechanics go off track. He either needs to go or we need an actual kicking specialist coach.
