I have go Mekhi Blackmon. I understand that his pick was a bit high vs his ranking but the only CB in this entire class who had a better PFF grade was Witherspoon (yeah, the guy got drafted 5th overall). Blackmon can play inside (did at Colorado) and outside (USC), can play in either a man or zone scheme, and is feisty enough to want the challenge of going against the best WR every day in practice. Don't be surprised to see him wanting to line up opposite of Jefferson on a daily basis during Viking's practices. He did it at USC against Addison.
runner up: LSU's DL Jaquelin Roy simply because he's the only trench guy they drafted.
Since you went with Blackmon I decided to give Roy some love. Louis Riddick went nuts once Minnesota picked him. Said something along the lines of 'develop this guy right and in a few years everyone will be wondering why he didn't go much higher'.
Blackmon is a pure B Flo pick. NE and Miami have had a ton of 5'10/5'11 guys that were OK athletes but could just play football. And then sprinkled in FAs with the optimal athletic traits ala Gilmore and Byron Jones. The kid will fight you every snap in the initial 5 yards. Got to get him to let go after that. But Rhodes had that problem coming out and that can be coached up.
It's also worth noting that Blackmon had a strong Sr. Bowl and Flores was there scouting. Likely led to his visit with the Team.
Ward is the typical Holland/Rowe hybrid Safety/Slot that can also take some reps on the Outside that Brian always has. It's clear they don't view Bynum as that guy. Good.
Roy can get better against the run. But he's got legit pass rush juice. Only one year of production is what pushed him down. I expect him to improve his run defense and take all the reps away from Bullard/Blacklock sooner than later.
Daronte Jones (Vikings DB Coach) was the LSU DC in '21. I guarantee he has the inside scoop on Ward and Roy and that played a part in their selections. Just like O'Connell had the scoop on Levis from Coen and totally passed.
Kwesi really loaded up on 'specialists' that really only fit Flores scheme in guys like Blackmon and Ward and to a lesser extent Pace. I wonder if Jones is the heir apparent to Flores? Doesn't seem like Brian brought anyone with him from Miami that would be his eventual replacement.
