He'll be missed. What a great story. Open try out to pro bowler. Hometown kid too obviously.
A digression, but:
I am always a bit bewildered when people refer to Adam Thielen as a "Hometown" guy. It is Minnesota Provincialism run amok. It is 200 miles from Minneapolis to Detroit Lakes.
Imagine if every kid who grew up within 200 miles of New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles were referred to by fans of those teams as "Hometown" guys?
Other guys, current and former players like C.J. Ham, Ben Ellefson, Marcus Sherels, and Tom Compton are/were all Minnesota natives too, why are they not constantly harped up as being "Hometown" guys. I suppose it is because WR is a marquee position and Adam Thielen was once a top of the line player.
It just never ceased to amaze me that play-by-play guys, and color guys always thought they were providing world-class insight when mentioning that Adam Thielen grew up in a town 200 miles northwest from where the Vikings play that through a geographical coincidence happens to be in Minnesota, while if he had been born 200 miles northeast or south...his hometown never would have been mentioned at all.
