It's just opinions. Doesn't require spite of any kind.
This started with an assertion that Hunter was "on track for the HOF". Everyone commenting here has him squarely behind some great players (Allen, Williams, possibly Millard) that are nonetheless not in the Hall.
Also as I like to point out, it's the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Statistics. This is often overlooked when people think they are making a supposedly solid case for entry (or non-entry). And only 346 guys are in the HOF, out of how many thousands who've played over the years? It's a high bar, more than just stats. If stats were all that mattered then yeah, Kirk has a case. If Kirk somehow led the Vikes to say 2 Super Bowl wins in the next few years then yeah, he might get in. If he just continues being Kirk Show up for his job and produce nice stats guy? He won't get in in a million years. Sorry to derail this a bit into a Kirk talk but I couldn't resist the urge .
Here's an article where some schmoe tries to tell you that guys in the HOF shouldn't be in it (admittedly, also tells you about guys that aren't that he thinks should be) based on stats. But some of the guys he says should somehow be "removed" were super famous in their day, and that is part of the equation. Joe Namath is always the poster child for this bullsh*t narrative. Namath was larger than life in his day and was part of an incredible historic upset in the SB the impact of which is lost on people who weren't alive at the time. In addition to the enormity of the upset itself, it was said to be the game that gave the AFL credibility as the countdown to the merger was getting short. Namath also famously had the swagger to call the upset a few nights before out loud in public. The HOF committee doesn't just sit down and count stats, it looks at the bigger picture as well.
