I don't care so much about the rugby scrum, I care about consistency and priorities. The rugby scrum is just a normal football play, not a loophole. The league didn't make a rule against the wildcat, it just took teams time to adapt, and now I'd rather watch the chess game of defenses trying to adapt to the rugby scrum. This is where coaches separate themselves from the pack, and get promoted.

Trying to catch an opponent with 12 players on the field is not football, it's finding a loophole in the rules and exploiting it, like Belicheck did with ineligible receivers, which the league quickly made a rule against because it was annoying and unsportsmanlike, just like trying to catch an opponent with 12 players on the field simply because they want to substitute.

The competition committee is supposed to close loopholes in the spirit of competition and sportsmanship, not assist coordinators who can't figure out how to counter something new. It's 3rd and 1, throw some more damn meat on the field.

The Chiefs were actually getting better at defending it as the game went along. Hurts briefly got stopped in the backfield when the LB jumped over the scrum, but the lack of meat in the middle created momentum that made the LB ride the pile like a wave.

I thought there was too once upon a time, but I couldn't find it. There was a rule implemented in 2015 where you couldn't push a teammate forward on a special teams play (to prevent injuries), so I imagine they're going to expand that to all plays now and for the same reason, and take the fun out of it, because that's going to apply to all situations, and create more subjectivity and line blurring. How many TD's did we see this year where a runner was stopped, until teammates came in late to push the "pile" into the EZ, which sometimes involved them grabbing/pushing the ball carrier? Now the refs will have to determine who pushed who in the pile. Uh oh, did he touch the ball carrier while pushing the pile? Yep, should bode well for the fans. GW TD!!!!!!!! No wait, it was determined Darrisaw might have inadvertently touched Chandlers sleeve in the scrum trying to push the pile forward, 10 yard penalty, game over, Packers win.

What I mean is, it's a normal football play. They outlawed it for injury concerns. Compared to going hurry up to catch a defense substituting, which is just a dick move. It's not football.

So doesn't sound like it was actually a rule at the NFL because they rightfully concluded it was too subjective. And not even that much if you consider the "Bush Push" lol. The subjectivity was my concern here though ...
And is that what we want? More subjectivity for officials who are already pretty inconsistent about what they enforce and when? Who wants to be the team that scores a winning TD but has it taken away because some sh*t stain had to go under the hood to determine if the ball carrier was pushed a little too much? Oh wait, it won't be reviewable so it'll depend on what they saw in real time ... in a pile of humanity.

But it's fine, outlaw it because I'm sure Kevin isn't clever enough to add such a play to his playbook anyway, especially when he has his patented "run up the middle behind the 3rd string center" play in his back pocket. The pushover Vikings will be victims of the play more than they'll take advantage of it lol.

I just want the NFL to focus on things that make the game agonizing, not how to make it more agonizing. We know how a pushing rule is going to be enforced ... poorly and inconsistently, feeding the conspiracy narratives, and thus making Oracle Bone Diviner life more difficult.
