I also don't understand why Kevin would turn the Vikings into a running team before Kirk leaves and not after if this was about moving on from Kirk. I think Kevin just figured out what Zimmer knew all along, that the offense works better when it is less dependent on Kirk.
EDIT : Also ill add that I wouldn't mind if Kirk was possibly brought back next year as well if we cant get our guy in the draft or trade. Kwesi and Kevin are def leaving that in their back pocket with the dead cap hit next year possibly. We have to leave all options open because there is no guarantee we can get that guy in the draft in the first round this year or next. Kirk may tell them to F off at the end of the year as well if he has other offers, which I wouldnt care either way. Its cool to take shots on guys in the later rounds but the reality is the percentage of them hitting is not high at all. The hit rate in the 2nd round is about 13%, then you get to the 3rd/4th is about 10%. Im not opposed to throwing those darts over the years, but I really dont see us in the position right now to be relying on finding a needle in the haystack. If your going to go for it, actually go for it and make that move in RD1 at some point this year or next.
Even in 2012 the Vikings passed more than they ran, and I don't think they become the Ravens unless they actually make a trade for Lamar. Something closer to that 2019 offense than the 2018 one though, where the team ran to setup the pass, Diggs had by far his highest YPC of his career, and the Vikings were 6th in scoring efficiency.
