No way the Raiders cut Carr only to turn around and trade for Cousins. The Steelers and SF are perfectly happy with their young QBs too. TB might be an option, but I think they just go full rebuild. Atlanta and the Jets are probably the only real options and based on what NO offered for Carr, a 3rd round pick might be the most we could expect.

You're probably right, but the NFL sometimes surprises us. I think back to the Stafford Goff deal, which I cited at the beginning of this discussion.

GMs can shock us with their stupidity at times (yeah, I'm sure that comes as a surprise). Obviously, both the Steelers and SF are behind their recent first round draft picks, but neither of them have really accomplished anything at this point. Also, while currently under new management, the Raiders have a long, long history of stupid. Maybe just tradition. Do I need to mention Jamarus Russell and Todd Marinovich? (roflmao)

I understand the Cousins debate; I don't understand the naivity associated with moving on from him. I understand moving on; I don't understand the amount of people so assured it gets better. More need to be honest with themselves.

Realistically, it gets cheaper, but it doesn't get better. We have a very rich history, but so few franchise quarterbacks to show for it. I hope we get the next Patrick Mahomes, but we're more likely to get Jackson Mahomes.

Very true. There's a price to be paid to keep him and there's a price to be paid to move on.

When Kapp moved on, we were stuck with Snead, Cuozzo and Lee. So bad that we were "forced" to pay a king's ransom to bring Fran back.

When Fran moved on, we were very lucky that Tommy was legit. A great QB to root for until he ran into some personal struggles.

We also did okay with Culpepper for a few years when we parted ways with Cunningham, George, Johnson et al.

Beyond that? It seems like anytime a "good" QB moved on we wound up with *poop*

for a few years. That's fully what I expect if we move Kirk.

To your point, it gets cheaper. But, it also gives us an opportunity to pursue that elusive HOF QB that is not Kirk. Dare to dream.

I'll repurpose something one Ryan Leaf said recently on SiriusXM: Ponder didn't choose to be drafted #12 overall
We could have drafted Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick, or Ryan Mallett....only Red would likely have been better for us.

The sad fact remains....the Vikings could've done a lot of things with that 12th overall pick in the 2011 draft but they selected Christian Ponder and the fan base hated him.

I often wonder what kind of team the KC Chiefs would be right now if the Bills refused to trade the 10th overall pick to them in 2017. So much s h i t happens during the draft that we have no clue about.

Beyond knowing they'd lose big games at virtually every opportunity there is nothing about this team that I'm assured of.

Regarding Cousins, he's not terrible, but he does need the perfect storm around him to succeed... and by succeed I mean in the playoffs. The problem as I see it is the current roster is in need of a major refresh and Kirk doesn't fit with that timeline. The sooner this team begins the rebuild the sooner they could be contenders again, and at my age that's the only thing I care about.

Last season was fun, but not for the same reason that the 1998, 2000, and 2009 seasons. Last season was fun because the results were ridiculous, those other three were fun because those teams were legit championship contenders. The only advantage the 2022 season had was my blood pressure was never elevated because I knew if was a mirage.

Finally, I'd love to see Cousins on the 49ers roster. That team is stacked, it's the kind of roster he needs to have a chance. If he can't do it there he can't do it anywhere.

you have a #31 defense you have a number of players on offense in their prime like the OTs WR TE Kirk ... you extend Kirk for 2 3 more years even 4 and then you FIX the defense ... and shore up the offense WHILE CONTENDING every year for the next 2 3 4 years

you also draft a few QBs and see if any of them pan out as possible replacement you don't do an endless rebuild like other teams and waste the prime years of those offensive players.
