Huh? His salary is actually very good compared to other contracts getting done in the last year and it will continue to look better as others sign.
And he certainly elevated the team the last two seasons. Historic number of comebacks and the greatest comeback in league history. No QB has won a SB playing with a defense that was as bad as ours was last two years
Peyton Manning did it in 2006 with a D that was 28th in scoring(ppd). Eli did it in 2011 with a D that was 24th(same as the Vikings last year). The Chiefs were only .02 better per drive scoring on D last season, a single TD difference. Matt Ryan was in the SB in 2016 with the 28th scoring D.
That is with the bar being the SB, when all the bar needs to be is winning a single playoff game. A ton of QBs have done that with a worse defense.
His salary this year is 35 million, and is impossible to compare to other QBs because he is the only QB on such a short deal making that much. That is 15.6% of the salary cap this year and 7 times what a rookie QB would cost the Vikings. With that extra cap the Vikings could easily have signed a massive upgrade at guard in Risner , kept Tomlinson, and had money to spare. If they extend him the Vikings will go from being big buyers in free agency in 2024 to barely able to maintain the status quo.
Your point proved nothing. Those defenses were not as bad as ours was last year. Your fantasy about just bringing in some cheap rookie is comical. Can it be done? Sure. But has this team ever managed to pull it off? That’s pretty obvious.
