Which changes nothing that I said and despite all of it we still won 0 playoff games...
I have given Cousins props for his play last year many times on here, that was definitely his best season for us imo given how he played in key moments (until the last drive). Z also had a pretty good year with 10 sacks and a lot of pressures for us. That doesn't mean much in terms of what this franchise/team is doing moving forward though as we purge the roster of aging vets and have some young guys with big pay days coming. Everything I have been pointing out is based on what will help this team moving forward long term because that seems to be the focus of the new regime now (which is great imo).
The o-line has been largely unfortunate for the last decade, achieving mediocrity under Shurmur just long enough to make Keenum look serviceable...but that was an outlier.
The question I ask is: why not prioritize the problems? Why this insistence to change one of the only consistently productive parts of the team while the defense, the o-line, the kickers, etc have all been far LESS reliable?
It kinda boggles the mind.
Z was productive though, just like you were getting at with cousins. That’s the point, individually neither was the problem. It’s still time to move on from them because of the reasons laid out and direction of the team.
No one said there aren’t bigger issues but you know what helps fill them? More assets and cap space. That’s why moving on from aging vets makes sense all around. Cousins isn’t going to lead us anywhere while we rebuild and will be declining over the years we are hopefully ready to make a push. Let’s focus our resources on the future instead of any aging vets because of the direction we are headed. There isn’t really a reason to keep extending him.
